Type, Lens, Size & Weight
To keep its price low, the Logitech C270 HD Webcam uses plastic material for its lens. There’s a slight image quality improvement by using glass instead, but you won’t notice the difference. However, it does autofocus, which leaves you to focus on recording rather than messing with the webcam. Measuring 9.85 x 4.94 x 6.45 inches and weighing 6.7oz, it’s bigger than the Microsoft LifeCam Studio For Business.
Resolution & Display
A native resolution of 720p is a double-edged sword, on one hand it’s good enough for YouTube and video calling, while being cost effective. On the other hand, 1080p is just so much sharper and higher quality. On a good note, light correction is solid—so long as you have decent white lighting. The Logitech Brio shoots in 4K, however.
Tripod & Image Stability
What hurts the Logitech HD Webcam C270 the most isn’t its resolution, but the lack of a tripod-ready base. Without one, your webcam is subject to using the clip-on, which isn’t always the most reliable if you’re constantly moving.

Optical Zoom, Microphone, Audio & Storage
While optical zoom isn’t an option, 200MB of storage is! You don’t see that all too often with budget webcams, so it’s a nice little bonus. It does have a built-in microphone with noise cancellation, but there’s still a noticeable level of static. Even a cheap external mic will do better.
Value
With everything the Logitech HD Webcam C270 has to offer, it’s still a decent option. Dropping $40 on this little number isn’t a huge hit and puts you right on track for getting your YouTube career started. It might leave you wanting though. For satisfactory results, we suggest the Logitech C922X; it hits all the marks the C270 doesn’t.
