If you and your Chromebook are often on the move, the best webcam for Chromebook is arguably the Logitech C615. When recording, you get crisp, full HD video quality, partly thanks to the glass lens adding far better clarity than plastic. More importantly, it folds several times over for easier transportation.

Why We Like It – Logitech C615

For the purpose of portability, the Logitech C615 can fold its body several times over for easier transportation. When plugged in and ready, it can capture in 1080p, at 30 frames per second.

Pros
  • Captures video in 1080p
  • Glass lens for better overall image quality
  • 360-degree swivel base
Cons
  • Drops to 720p during live calls
  • Lacks a camera lens cover

Type, Lens, Size & Weight

The Logitech C615 HD uses a glass lens, as opposed to plastic, that actually provides a marginally clearer image and overall better picture quality. It even adds a slight boost to durability. It’s 6.4-oz, with a dimension of 8.25 x 3.00 x 6.00 inches, but can fold to easily fit in your pocket. On a side note: the USB cable should’ve been a few feet longer.

Resolution & Display

Resolution changes depending on how you use the Logitech HD Webcam C615. Should you use it for recording, you’ll enjoy 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second. During live video calls and streaming, however, the resolution drops down to 720p. Not as pretty, but still optimal.

Tripod & Image Stability

Image stability isn’t the greatest due to the clip-on design. Over time it will loosen, so we highly suggest you use a tripod the first chance you get. It is tripod-ready.

Optical Zoom, Microphone, Audio & Storage

The C615 Logitech Webcam lacks optical zoom and internal storage. However, sound quality is fair, but not as clear as the Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920. This is due to the omni-directional mics the C920 has, which is what the C615 lacks.

Value

In most settings, the Logitech C615 works great for the average person. It has solid picture quality, fair sound quality, it’s affordable, and Logitech is a brand you can trust. However, video conferences aren’t its strong points, as is anything above person interactions. For that we’d suggest the Logitech Brio 4K. For streaming, go with the Logitech C910.

Logitech C615 Wrap Up

If there’s anything the Logitech C615 excels at, above all else, it’s being a great option for personal use. We only wish its glass lens would be protected by a cover. While recording in 1080p is a fact, live video calls take a hit. If you can look past both, you’re taking home a reliable, but affordable webcam.
