We wouldn’t say the Logitech C270 Widescreen HD Webcam is the best webcam for Skype, but it’s one of the best options for those on a tight budget and simply need a webcam. It isn’t kitted out with tons of features, so it’s simplistic in nature. At the end of the day, 720p is still better than 480p and 360p.

Type, Lens, Size & Weight
The lens is made of plastic, which does drop durability and image quality a smidge, but unnoticed by an untrained eye. What’s important is its auto-focus and auto light correction. Both are exceptionally good for its price. It has some girth to it with dimensions of 9.85 x 4.94 x 6.45 inches and weighing 6.7-oz, almost tied with the Logitech HD Webcam C525 in size.
Resolution & Display
If you want 1080p HD video quality, you aren’t getting that from the Logitech C270 Widescreen HD Webcam. For recording and video calling, it maxes out at 720p. For the average Skype user, that’ll do just fine. It’s working off of 3MP, which is what you’d expect at this price range. If it isn’t quite enough, the Microsoft LifeCam has better colors.
Tripod & Image Stability
Sadly, you cannot attach this webcam to a tripod; it lacks a tripod-ready base. It uses a clip-on design that doesn’t always work, but its face tracking tends to circumvent that negative in your favor.

Optical Zoom, Microphone, Audio & Storage
Yet another feature it lacks: zoom, neither optical or digital. It has 200MB of internal storage though! Its microphone has noise cancellation, but there’s still a level of static that you’ll notice. If you have a dedicated mic, we suggest you use that or upgrade to the Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920.
Value
Despite being limited in features and decen performance, the Logitech C270 Widescreen HD Webcam still has the ability to capture niche uses. Are you strapped for cash? Do you need to make a quick decision? If you said “yes” to either of those, the C270 has the right amount of value for you.
