Type, Lens, Size & Weight
Underneath its plastic, the Amcrest 1080p Webcam uses a 1/3 CMOS image sensor that’s wider than normal. You can protect the lens (and cover the lens) via the built-in lens cover. With a dimension of 5 x 3 x 2.5 inches and 4.8 ounces, you don’t have to worry about the webcam being too heavy on your screen. It has a particularly long 5ft 9in USB cable.
Resolution & Display
Unlike the Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920, the Amcrest 1080p Webcam does not downgrade its video resolution to 720p during video conferences. It’s 1080p right off the bat. Its large sensor in particular actually further improves video quality by capturing detail even in low light settings, with a wide angle of 90 degrees—20 degrees higher than the AWC201 B.
Tripod & Image Stability
The Amcrest 1080p Webcam supports tripods, but doesn’t come bundled with one. Without it, you resort to the clip, which fastens to your monitor or laptop screen. It isn’t as stable as a tripod, but does okay when it isn’t disrupted too much.
Optical Zoom, Microphone, Audio & Storage
Unfortunately, the Amcrest 1080p Web Camera has a fixed lens. It lacks digital and optical zoom. The Logitech C930E, however, can digitally zoom up to four times. This Amcrest USB webcam comes with a microphone built into the body. Audio quality is surprisingly clear, which can definitely be contributed to its noise reducing technology. Sadly, it doesn’t have internal storage, though the Logitech C270 Webcam does.
Value
You can get away with a low resolution webcam and call it a day. The Amcrest 1080p Webcam isn’t that; instead, it’s what you want if quality is a concern. The microphone and privacy cover built-in is nice, but video calling in 1080p is why it’s one of the best webcams. More importantly: it’s $40.

You can quickly excuse the Amcrest 1080p Webcam’s unstable clip design via tripod. And since it is so affordable, that’s a reality within reach. You’ll have a hard time finding a webcam that shoots in 1080p without downgrading during video conferences, especially one that does well in low light settings.
