It’s really hard to find fault with the Canon ImageClass MF424DW Monochrome Laser Printer. It’s probably why we consider it a best laser printer. It’s output for graphics and photos are still fast and serviceable despite it being a monochrome printer, and it even features an ADF and duplexing, things not normally seen together on other popular printers.

Why We Like It – Canon ImageClass MF424DW

The Canon ImageClass MF424DW is a great printer that prints text documents exceedingly fast with accurate, readable, and typesetter worthy output from as low as four point font. It’s running costs may not be the cheapest, but they are competitive and still less than most of its competitors.

Pros
  • Output Still Fast for Graphics and Photos
  • Serviceable Photos and Graphics
  • ADF and Duplexing
Cons
  • Running Costs are Less than Competitors, but Still High

Speed

The Canon ImageClass MF424DW All-In-One Printer boasts an absolutely incredible print speed of 40ppm and can even go as high as 41ppm under optimal conditions which is 5ppm higher than the Brother MFC-L2750DW. When printing graphics, the print speed averages about 21.3ppm, which is still a respectable speed. It can also print a monochrome photo in about seven seconds which is average but still pretty good.

Print Quality

The Canon Print Business knows how to make a good text-based printer. Both serif and sans serif fonts on the Canon ImageClass MF424DW were crisp and readable down to the smallest font sizes. Print Resolution for black and white photos are good, but keep in mind you shouldn’t be expecting anything photographer worthy. Graphics also came out looking nice with only a few barely noticeable blotches. If you would like your photos in color, though, consider the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M479fdw.

Efficiency

If you purchase the highest-yield toner cartridge from Canon USA your running costs should be about 2.3 cents per page. While that may sound expensive it’s still a full cent cheaper than competitors and on par with the HP LaserJet Pro M148fdw. And remember, pennies add up over time. After 1,000 print jobs, you’ll be spending $100 less on the Canon printer than its competitors simply because it costs a penny per page less to operate.

Advanced Features

The Canon ImageClass MF424DW supports Ethernet, Wi Fi, USB, and Wi-Fi Direct. Mobile connectivity options include Apple AirPrint, Mopria, Google Cloud Print, and the ability to scan and copy from a USB thumb drive on the right front of the chassis. The Canon Print Business App will also allow you to scan and print from the various cloud sites.

Value

The Canon ImageClass MF424DW White Laser Printer comes with a single-pass automatic document feeder with duplex printing (two sided printing). You would be surprised at how many printers make you choose one or the other. It has a recommended monthly print volume of about 4,000 pages to keep it healthy and printing the best it can, and the paper capacity is an impressive 300 sheets.

Canon ImageClass MF424DW Wrap Up

I mentioned that it’s hard to find fault with this printer and I stand by that because most of the faults can be, somewhat, mitigated or justified. The running costs aren’t high, but they aren’t particularly low either. Photo quality can be a little splotchy at times, but you can’t expect a monochrome printer made for text documents to churn out photographer-level printouts, can you?
