The wide field of view offered by the Samsung CF791’s curved display is a huge advantage for gamers and professionals alike, as it allows for a much better viewing experience even when viewed at an angle. Being a VA panel also adds to its list of pros, since this complements its impressive brightness at 300 nits. It’s 4ms response time prevents any ghosting during viewing, and it’s high contrast ratio of 3000:1 allows the deepest blacks & brightest whites to appear sharp and vivid. Such features qualify the Samsung CF791 as one of the best computer monitors you can find. If you want a monitor that will charge your phone, take a look at how the Samsung monitor comes with wireless charging for your iPhone.

Why We Like It – Samsung CF791

The 34-inch Samsung CF791 is a serious contender for gamers that prefer big curved monitors. To justify it’s relatively high price tag, the gaming monitor comes with features such as Quantum dot technology which uses nano-size light emitting crystals to deliver a wide range of colors, and a superb 100Hz refresh rate coupled with AMD’s FreeSync technology to keep screen tearing at bay. For a slightly smaller option, take a look at our AOC Ultra Slim i2757FH 27in HD display review instead.

Pros
  • Fast 100Hz refresh rate which provides great motion handling
  • VA Panel which is great for dark room viewing
  • High contrast ratio of 3000:1 for deep blacks & bright whites
Cons
  • No Support for HDR
  • High input lag of around 18ms
  • 8ms

Performance

Gaming on the Samsung CF791 is an absolute joy thanks to its 21:9 aspect ratio, and the high color accuracy it produces courtesy of it’s 125% coverage of the sRGB color spectrum. The gaming monitor is as wide as the LG 34UM69G-B, and it doesn’t really need any calibration out of the box. It’s lack of HDR support might be a dealbreaker, but it’s high input lag of around 18ms doesn’t speak well to gamers who prefer high responsiveness. Connectivity isn’t overlooked thanks to 2 HDMI ports, 1 DisplayPort and 2 USB ports.

Design

The Samsung CF791 is elegantly designed with a white glossy back and very thin bezels. Unlike most gaming monitors, the Samsung C34F791 has a rounded stand that supports it well, and has support for both 100 x 100 and 200 x 200 VESA wall mounting options. It’s speakers are just as mediocre as those of the HP VH240a, but it’s inputs are housed in a compartment that has its own cover, and cable management is also sorted out through the stand. The monitor cannot however be switched between portrait and landscape, and is not capable of swiveling.

Value

At slightly under $1000, the Samsung CF791 is significantly more expensive than other mid-range options such as the Acer R240HY, but it does offer a lot more in features and capabilities The gaming monitor offers superior image quality thanks to its Quantum dot technology, and this also helps keep the monitor’s power consumption levels low. The monitor also has a Game mode that allows users to fine tune its settings for the best gaming experience, and it may also be used for color-critical work thanks to its wide color gamut.

Samsung CF791 Wrap Up

As per this monitor review, the Samsung CF791 is a stellar choice for users who want to jump from using two monitors into one due to its large screen real estate. The monitor also has great build quality, and a futuristic look that almost turns your desk into a command center. The few things pulling it down are the lack of HDR support, and the significantly high input lag. Otherwise, the Samsung CF791 is a great pick for anyone that’s got spare change for a good monitor.
