The Asus ROG Strix Scar III G531GW is a powerhouse of a gaming laptop accompanied by a powerhouse of a price. The Intel Core i7 allows the system to make mincemeat out of even the most graphically superb games, and the 16 GB of RAM allows you to run multiple tasks at the same time without slowing down. Power/Performance
The Asus ROG Scar III G531GW features an Intel Core i7 processor, 16 GB of RAM, the full-power Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 CPU GPU, and a 1 TB NVMe SSD. It’s more than powerful enough to play the Sims 4 and Titanfall 2 without problems. It may be a little too powerful for the Sims 4, so consider the Lenovo IdeaPad L340 Gaming Laptop if you want something less powerful for cheaper.

Battery
Among gaming laptops, such as the Acer Predator Helios 300 GTX 1660 TI, the battery life on the Asus ROG Strix Scar III comes in at an impressive six hours and 32 minutes. While that may not seem like a lot, you have to remember that most gaming laptops have an average of about four hours, give or take. So that extra two hours of gaming time will be invaluable. In fat, anything over six hours would be considered good. You can also save even more battery by turning Wi-Fi off when you’re not using it.
Ports/Expandability
The Asus ROG Strix Scar III provides ample connectivity features, so you can use it as something other than a gaming laptop if need be. On the left are three USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports and an audio jack and on the back are an HDMI port, a USB Type-C with DisplayPort support, and an Ethernet jack. For a right-handed gamer, though, the mouse would have to be wrapped around from the left side of the laptop, which can be cumbersome. For more traditional port placement, see the MSI GF63 Thin.
Build Quality
If you like subtlety in your laptop form, then this isn’t for you. A strip of RGB lighting illuminates both the front and edges of the laptop, and the large ROG logo is on the lid. Even the keyboard features per-key RGB lighting that can be cool or tacky depending on your tastes. However, the plastic enclosure doesn’t feel as strong as a metal chassis. Even the fans can get loud while gaming, which, in turn, can drain the battery.
Value
The Armoury Crate app allows for customization of lighting, monitoring components, controlling fans, and much more. But while the performance components mentioned previously may sound good, the combination of GeForce RTX 2060 graphics and 240Hz display are odd because they can’t achieve the desired 240 frame rates.
Asus ROG Strix Scar III G531GW Wrap Up
Any Asus ROG Strix Scar III review will do well to mention how good the battery life is compared to other gaming laptops. However, I struggle to see how they can justify the price-tag they have. I’ve seen lower-priced laptops with higher RAM, higher frame rates, and in some rare cases, even higher Intel Core processors.
