The best gaming laptop for school needs two traits: a CPU with plenty of cores for multitasking, and a powerful GPU. Luckily for you, the ASUS ROG Strix Scar II has both. You’ll get amazing frame rate and overall performance when using both an RTX 2060 6 GB and 9th Gen Intel Core i7-9750H for high-end gaming. This is one of the best gaming laptops now.

Why We Like It – ASUS ROG Strix Scar III

Multitasking and gaming are masterfully handled by the ASUS ROG Strix Scar III, all handled by a 6-core 9th Gen Intel Core CPU and a heavy-hitting RTX 2060 for high frame rates.

Pros
  • Equipped w/ NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 6 GB
  • 9th Gen Intel Core i7-9750H
  • 16 GB of DDR4 2666MHz RAM
Cons
  • Battery life could be better

Power & Performance

What better way to understand what this setup can do than through recommended specifications for a particular title? With an RTX 2060 6 GB, 16 GB of RAM, and an i7-9750, you can easily play Cyberpunk 2077 on ultra settings at 1080, even have access to ray tracing! And with Armoury Crate, you can adjust the performance mode of your fans.

Battery, Ports & Expandability

Aside from Wi-Fi, along the left and right sides are three USB 3.1 Type-A ports, audio jack, USB Type-C, DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.0B, and an RJ45 port. Yes, the ASUS ROG Strix Scar III is expandable. So, if you wanted an NVMe SSD or 32 GB of RAM, you can do both. As for battery life, you’re looking at 5 hours. That’s a bit short, but a few tweaks will do it some good.

Build Quality

ROG loves their RGB lighting, but it doesn’t infer the quality of a laptop. Thankfully, it isn’t cheap in any way. There’s some plastic, brushed aluminum, and carbon fiber. If you try any bending, it will hardly budge. It’s certainly more put together than the Lenovo IdeaPad I340 Gaming Laptop, but more akin to the Alienware M15 Gaming Laptop.

Value

ASUS ROG laptops are nothing to laugh at, so it isn’t surprising that the ASUS ROG STrix Scar III delivers in just about every front. And it’s no surprise that the ASUS ROG Zephyrus S Ultra Slim Gaming Laptop does the same. For dropping $2299, we expect power, and the Strix Scar III delivers in flying colors—especially that sweet 240Hz refresh rate.

ASUS ROG Strix Scar III Wrap Up

It would be an understatement if we said the ASUS ROG Strix Scar III was a beast. The entire setup puts you right in line to enjoy most, if not the majority, of popular titles on high to ultra settings. When you have a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 6 GB, 9th Gen Intel Core i7-9750H, and 16 GB of RAM, that’s just natural.
