It packs in a GeForce RTX processor as well as an amazing 120Hz, 14 Inch display giving you a great gaming performance. And although it may not have a webcam, with its long lasting battery life and with its Free Sync enabled RTX GPU, the Asus Zephyrus G14 stands out to be one of the best gaming laptops out in the market. Why We Like It – Asus Zephyrus G14

Pros
  • Great gaming capability
  • Impressive battery life for a gaming laptop
  • Lightweight and compact
Cons
  • No webcam

Performance

Starting off with the AMD Ryzen 7 4800HS processor, GTX 1650 graphics card and 8GB of RAM, the Asus Zephyrus G14 delivers a pretty solid gaming performance. However, with a slight increase in price you can get yourself a 120Hz Full HD screen instead of the starting 60Hz refresh rate, 16GB of RAM and the GTX 1660 Ti Max Q which offers a great upgrade in performance for a small increase in price. With the Free Sync feature enabled you will no longer experience any form of screen tearing while playing games. If you want a sleek gaming laptop from DELL that has a dual-fan coolIng system with an elaborate thermal design, read our Dell G5 15 Gaming laptop review.

Moreover, you can also get yourself a 1440p screen instead of the 1080p one, which would give the image on the screen a greater clarity. But even so, without that the display offers a great image quality with sufficient brightness and colour gamut. However, if you’re someone looking for a gaming laptop with 4K displays, the MSI Ghost Pro could be worth your consideration. On the other hand, the Zephyrus falls back at a certain point which won’t be a drawback for everyone. It doesn’t have a webcam. Now that may seem weird, but considering the fact that it was built extensively for gaming, the need of a webcam simply disappears. However, if you do need one, an external one wouldn’t be much of a compromise considering the gaming performance it offers. What about an ASUS 8 core duo gaming and business laptop with 2TB SSD? Furthermore, with options of upto the Nvidia RTX 2060 Max-Q GPU the Asus Zephyrus G14 surpasses many of its competitors which have Nvidia GeForce GTX GPUs. This makes for a great gaming experience but it does come with its price. If you’re someone on a budget, laptops like the Dell Inspiron I7559 or the Lenovo Y700 are great picks for you. Moving onto the battery life, the Asus Zephyrus G14 offers upto around 11 hours of video streaming and around 6 hours of real world use. This already surpasses every other gaming laptop of its kind, allowing you to be more on the go without needing to plug in. But do keep in mind that without the AC adapter plugged in, the GPU won’t be performing at its best, so plugging in might be a better option for when you’re playing games. Even so, the Asus Zephyrus allows you to carry out your day to day tasks on it as well, while the AMD Ryzen chipset stays on par with, if not surpasses its Intel Core counterparts.

While the speakers on it aren’t as great as that of the Lenovo Y700, they are decent and moderately loud. As for the storage, the middle model offers a 512GB SSD which can easily be replaced if you need more storage. Speaking of replaceability, the Zephyrus G14 comes with a second RAM space, where you can easily place an extra RAM for a faster more responsive performance.

Additionally, the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 comes with a good amount of thermal maintenance while the fan speed itself is customizable with numerous different modes, allowing to switch between better thermal or sound management through a software. And with a good keyboard and touchpad, it allows you to carry out your work and school tasks with ease thanks to a good amount of key travel and responsiveness respectively.

Design

Measuring to be 12.8 by 8.7 by 0.7 inches and weighing only 3.5 pounds the Asus ROG G14 is lighter than almost all gaming laptops. It may not be as lightweight as the Razer Blade, but that’s actually quite good considering how much the Razer Blade cuts down on performance as a gaming machine. This makes the Zephyrus G14 extremely travel friendly and one of the most ultra portable gaming laptops.

And with its magnesium alloy build, it is pretty solid with a sturdy hinge that also offers ergo lift helping with thermal management.

Apart from its thin design, the Asus Zephyrus also offers a great aesthetic design with 1215 individual mini LEDs on its top. Being as customizable as can get, the LEDs allow you to portray simple yet pretty sleek images on the surface, allowing others to see something while you game. It is a great feature for those who wish to have a good looking gaming laptop, however for customizable RGB lighting on the keyboard, the Zephyrus S GX701 is a great option.

When it comes to inputs, the Asus Zephyrus G14 doesn’t disappoint. It offers you two USB-A ports, two USB-C ports (which both allow charging and one even allows a Display connection), a full-sized HDMI and the headphone/mic combination jack. This is a great amount of port availability, but the only thing it misses is a SD card reader, which can however be solved through a simple dongle.

Value

Priced at around $1450, the Asus Zephyrus G14 offers a whole lot of CPU and GPU power, with enough RAM memory as well. Paired with its compact and lightweight build and the aesthetic design as well as the LED lighting system as seen in the photos(image credit and rights reserved to Asus), the Asus Zephyrus G14 is a great gaming machine allowing you to play the top rated games like the Rise of the Tomb Raider and other games featured in the Future US, all at a acceptable price. While it isn’t as cheap as the Dell Inspiron I7559, it offers a whole lot more competing with more highly priced gaming laptops all at a good value.

Asus Zephyrus G14 Wrap Up

While the Asus Zephyrus G14 may not be the most powerful gaming laptop, nor the cheapest, powered by the AMD Ryzen 7 processors, it provides you a great gaming performance in a portable and aesthetic design. It provides sufficient sound and heat management and with a good value price tag, it stands out to be one of the best gaming laptops you can get right now.
