Power & Performance

Surpassing the Intel Core i3, the Dell Inspiron 15 5000 Series 15.6 Laptop is fitted with an 8th Gen i7-8550U. That’s four cores working with a fast 256GB SSD. In other words, getting your work done won’t ever be a problem if you’re juggling multiple programs. However, the Inspiron 15 opted for integrated GPU instead of dedicated. To be fair, it can still run League of Legends, Minecraft, even Valorant.

Battery, Ports & Expandability

Aside from access to Wi Fi, the Dell Inspiron 15 5000 Series 15.6 Laptop has x4 USB ports: one 3.1 Type C, two 3.1 Gen 1, and one 2.0. You also have an SD card reader, HDMI, and an SSD as opposed to a mechanical hard drive.

Build Quality

Compared to a Microsoft Surface Book 2 Gaming Laptop, there’s no contest—but the Inspiron 15 5000 Series still holds its own in terms of build quality. It’s mostly of metal construction, with a few choice sections made of plastic. It doesn’t have a lot of flex and is quite sturdy. You won’t have to worry about damage if you packed it in your backpack and whatnot.

Value

Why choose the Inspiron 15 5000 Series over, say, an ASUS ZenBook Gaming Laptop or Acer Nitro 5 Spin? Those two are clearly better in every regard. Unfortunately, both cost twice (and more) as much. If your concern is budget, the 5000 Series is just $800, and it’s still a competent gaming laptop. For serious gaming, consider dropping an extra $700 on the Acer Nitro 5 Spin.

Dell Inspiron 15 5000 Series 15.6 Laptop Wrap Up

Having 8GB of RAM is still standard, and despite using an integrated GPU, the Dell Inspiron 15 5000 Series 15.6 Laptop is still a competent gaming laptop. It’s thin, lightweight, and portable. And the 8th Gen Intel Core i7 processor is a step in the right direction if you need to multitask. All in all a good budget option.
