Why We Like It – Asus ROG SWIFT PG279Q

The Asus ROG Swift PG279Q is a top-of-the-range gaming monitor with tremendous performance and excellent graphics quality. This 27-inch monitor features a full 2K resolution, and a blistering 165Hz refresh rate to stop motion blur. If you want a slightly bigger monitor read our LG 34UM88 review instead. Or if you want to go smaller, take a look at the AOC E2251FWU 22 inch widescreen USB LED monitor review. Compare this 22inch with our HP Envy 23 and HP Pavilion 23 (all in one machine’s ship date and price announced) to decide which of these smaller monitors is best.

Pros
  • Fantastic image quality w/ high color accuracy.
  • Supports Nvidia G-Sync technology
  • 165Hz Ultra-high refresh rate
Cons
  • Tiny speakers
  • High Price

Performance

Much like the Asus ROG PG279Q, the Asus Rog Swift PG279Q monitor is all about performance. It boasts a low response time of just four milliseconds and the high 165Hz refresh rate is hard to beat. One of its gaming features is the Nvidia G-Sync technology which synchronizes the monitor with the graphics card to reduce screen tearing and display stutter. If you have an AMD graphics card, the Benq XL2730Z could be a better option. At 2560 x 1440, the PG279Q’s resolution is larger and offers more detail than conventional 1920 x 1080 monitors. The IPS panel creates better viewing angles compared to other monitors with TN panels and limited viewing angles.

While the specs on this monitor are phenomenal, don’t rule out monitors with 1440p, like the one you’ll read in our write-up of the Asus ROG Swift PG27UQ review.

Design

Despite packing a serious punch, this Asus Rog Swift monitor comes in a full black, minimalist design. It’s fully adjustable with adjustments for tilt, pivot, and height with up to 90 degrees of rotation, making it a top gaming monitor for Xbox One X. The bezels are very slim, and the triangular neck and wide base give it solid support. For added practicality, the neck features a routing cut-out to easily run wires. In addition to the HDMI 1.4a and DisplayPort 1.2a ports, there are also two USB 3.0 ports. If you’re looking for a curved screen, the BenQ XR3501 is a great alternative.

Value

This Rog Swift monitor proves that you get what you pay for. It sits at the upper echelon of gaming monitors yet is more affordable than the Acer Predator XB271HU.The impressive color gamut and 165Hz refresh rate are hard to beat. Getting the best out of this monitor requires a compatible graphics card, as well as games that can match the impressive performance. Casual gamers might not push this screen to its limits and see what it’s capable of. Serious gamers will appreciate the incredible performance.

Asus ROG SWIFT PG279Q Wrap Up

The Asus PG279Q is a G-sync monitor with some impressive features. Despite its high price, it delivers fantastic visuals and quick response times unmatched by most other monitors out there. The only minor gripe with this monitor is the small speakers, which will hardly be used
