If you’re looking for a gaming monitor with a quick response time and lightning-fast refresh rate the ROG Strix XG258Q is one of the best choices. It comes with all the bells and whistles expected from a ROG Swift monitor like Asus Aura RGB Lighting, Extreme Motion Blur Technology, and Adaptive-Sync Freesync. Its brilliant performance puts it on our best 240Hz gaming monitor list. See how it stacks up against some of the best computer monitors around.

Why We Like It – Asus ROG Strix XG258Q

The ROG Swift PG258Q gaming monitor sets a new standard with absolutely blistering performance. The ultrafast refresh rate of 240Hz is hard to match and so is the minuscule response time of just 1m/s. It’s perfect for long gaming sessions thanks to its blue light filter and low motion blur technology.

Pros
  • Very high refresh rate of 240Hz
  • Low response time of 1m/s
  • Both G-Sync and Freesync compatible
Cons
  • Ports are inconveniently placed under a cover
  • Limited to 1080 resolution
  • A bit small compared to other gaming monitors

Performance

In terms of performance, this Asus ROG Strix monitor sits up there with the best. The 240Hz refresh rate delivers smooth visuals and the 1 m/s response time eliminates motion blur. The Strix XG258q has a full HD 1920×1080 TN panel screen and a maximum contrast ratio of 1000:1. It also has the Asus Ultra-low Blue Light filters. With the right drivers, it’s both G-Sync and Freesync to eliminate screen tearing and create low motion blur. If you need something with an even faster response time, the AOC Agon AG271FZ2 is an excellent choice.

Design

This ROG Strix monitor comes with tilt, swivel, pivot, and height adjustability. It also has a narrow bezel which makes it ideal if you need multiple displays. The whole package has a premium feel to it and the Asus Aura RGB lighting gives it a special appearance. Asus Aura RGB is adjustable LED lighting that can sync with other ROG devices to create a vibrant atmosphere. In terms of ports, the Strix XG258Q has one HDMI input, two USB ports, one DisplayPort, and a headphone jack. For a second HDMI port, the Acer XF250Q is worth a look.

Value

The Strix XG258q may be smaller than many other gaming monitors but it packs a serious punch. The graphics quality is amazing and it can match most screens out there. It has a super-fast refresh rate and the 1 m/s response time eliminates motion blur. Thanks to the blue light filter you can sit for marathon sessions without feeling uncomfortable. The thin bezel and Aura RGB give this monitor a premium look. The Alienware AW2518HF is a cheaper alternative with similar performance.

Asus ROG Strix XG258Q Wrap Up

Both the inside and outside have a quality feel to it and the aura RGB adds ambiance with its effect. Despite its relatively small size and resolution, this screen provides a fantastic gaming experience.
