If you’re on the hunt for the best tv monitor then you’ll definitely want to check out our #3 choice, the Sony X720E. Sony’s X720E series TV isn’t as technologically advanced as other smart TVs, but it does provide a superior image quality that works great with everything from movies to video games. At less than $600, this TV provides a great bang for your buck! Compare it with some of your best TVs and see how it stands.

Why We Like It – Sony X720E

The Sony X720E is a 43-inch HDR Smart TV that’s the perfect addition to your home entertainment center. This Sony TV has a high dynamic range HDR display that will work great for watching HDR video, HDR gaming, or watching your favorite Blu Ray movies. For a 3D 50-inch TV, check out the Sony KDL 50R550A 50 Bravia LED LCD HDTV with 3D.

Pros
  • 4K High Dynamic Range 43-inch TV Display
  • Integrated Remote Control Buttons For Netflix & YouTube Will Satisfy Most United States Users
  • ClearAudio+ Technology Provides A High-Quality Digital Audio Experience
Cons
  • No Information Provided About The Power Consumption Of This Smart TV

Performance (Display/Resolution/Refresh)

The Sony X720E excels in terms of performance, offering a 60hz refresh rate on its 43-inch 4K HDR display (if a 43-inch display is too small for you, check out the Samsung NU6900 55!). While it’s not the highest refresh rate around, it will be more than adequate for most users and provides a great picture with a resolution of 2,160p. It uses MotionFlow XR technology to eliminate motion blur from fast-moving scenes, which is complemented by the lifelike HDR picture (which is far better than a standard display!). For a 65-inch TV, check out our Sony X900E review.

Sound

This TV utilizes ClearAudio+ to improve upon the auditory experience by enhancing sound with more clarity, which is perfect for movies with a lot of dialogue. It has multiple audio settings so you can easily adjust the sound to your liking. If the TV isn’t loud enough for you, change the “Dynamic Range” from “standard” to “condensed for a higher volume (just be aware this may deteriorate the sound quality). Of course, for the best sound, you will want to invest in a soundbar. Sony recommends the HTCT290 soundbar.

Smart Features

The X720E series has some smart technology, but it’s not cutting-edge. For example, if you want a TV that works with both Amazon Alexa & Google Home, the LG SM9000 might be a better choice for you. However, if you just want a TV with some smart features, then this TV will surely meet your expectations, as it has the most essential streaming apps available. The remote even has dedicated buttons for Netflix & YouTube so you can easily open the apps without having to access a menu.

Ports & Expandability

You’ll find 3 HDMI inputs on this TV, along with three USB 2.0 ports, a component/composite input, and the standard composite input. It doesn’t have any video outputs, so you won’t be able to use it to record to a DVR, but it does have audio outputs. You can use it with headphones, or hook it up to your sound system, and it even has a Subwoofer Sync setting to help reduce subwoofer lag. It offers both variable and fixed audio output modes.

Value

The Sony X720E costs $579.99, which is a lot cheaper than higher-end smart TVs such as the Samsung Q80R. Sony offers a one-year limited warranty on this product, which is transferable (although this does not extend or restart the warranty length). If you’re using the TV for commercial purposes then the warranty is only valid for 90 days. Scoring a 4.1 out of 5-star rating on Amazon, this TV seems to make the cut for most customers, although the score could be higher.

Sony X720E Wrap Up

If you’re looking for a smart TV that has a great image, works with popular streaming services such as Youtube or Netflix, and costs under $600, then the Sony X720E is a perfect choice! We wish there was information provided about the power consumption of this device, but based on the size we can’t imagine it being too high.
