When most veteran users talk about the best grills, grills like the Northfire Inferno Grill barely get brought up in the conversation. But that is not a fair assessment of this gas grill at all. It is one of the only grills that stand a chance of securing the best infrared grill title.

Why We Like It – Northfire Inferno Grill

Usually, vertical infrared grills aren’t that great. But the Northfire Inferno Grill is different. The infrared burner inside this gas grill is absolutely fantastic and provides taste on par with a steakhouse. So this Inferno infrared grill is superb overall.

Pros
  • Up to 1500 degrees Fahrenheit temperature
  • Cooks a one-inch-thick steak to medium rare within a couple of minutes
  • Easily removable grill racks
Cons
  • One pound propane canisters aren’t supported
  • Few design flaws

Power & Heating

The infrared burner inside this stainless steel is only rated at about 8500 BTUs. Now, some might scoff at that, and it’s not even as powerful as some low burners in a kitchen. It’s not even as powerful as the cheaper Char-Broil TRU Infrared 14101550 grill. But the cooking area of this Inferno single-serving grill is pretty low. So, it should give you excellent performance for that space.

Size & Versatility

It is pretty small in size, but it’s extremely heavy. It’s even heavier than the smaller Magma Grill. But, at least it comes with slide-out racks for easy cleaning. The KitchenAid grill is bigger, but can be a pain to clean. The stainless steel drip tray below this propane infrared grill is also pretty useful overall.

Durability

Even though it is made out of the same kinds of materials found inside the Char-Broil TRU Infrared Grill 463276016, it does not rust very easily. It is meant for outdoor use only, and it stays put just fine under all weather conditions. You’ll find in our Napoleon LEX 485 review, another grill that’s sturdy and well-built.

Ease Of Use

This gas grill might seem like it’s easy to use, but we can’t really recommend it for new users. But, when you’re ready, you’ll want to know exactly how to use a gas grill to avoid any problems. First of all, there are a few hazardous design flaws. You can’t really move this Inferno single-serving grill before it fully cools off. And if you try that, you might burn your hands. And the ignition system of the infrared burner is not very well designed either, unlike the Solaire grill, which has an easy-to-use infrared system.

Value

If you have a small family or living by yourself, this propane infrared grill provides steakhouse quality grilled foods for a pretty reasonable price point. Once again, it’s not going to be enough for a big group of hungry foodies, but for just one/two people, this propane infrared grill should be more than enough.

Northfire Inferno Grill Wrap Up

Few quirks aside, the Northfire Inferno Grill is very good overall. And it’s built well to last a long time.
