  • Bristles not as close together as on the Alpha Grillers (our #2 pick)
  • Specialized for outdoor grills

[/su_row]

This simple, handy grill brush from Weber is one of the best exterior grill cleaners for all types of BBQ and outdoor grills. It makes quick work of yesterday’s grill debris and grease and lets you start afresh with each meal. Spirally-wound stainless steel bristles let you clean your grill bars top and bottom. The grill cleaner’s head is 7.1-inches wide, enough to make scraping down a medium-sized outdoor grill a fairly quick and easy job. The shorter sides can be used to dislodge debris and grease between grates and for cleaning edges. Additionally, this great grill brush has an ergonomic handle that provides leverage and control as you’re cleaning dirty cook grates.

Best for 18-30” wide outdoor grills, this brush offers a 2-year limited warranty and has good ratings for durability. For best results, preheat the grill slightly before brushing it. The best charcoal grill is now easy to keep clean.

#2  Alpha Grillers 18” Grill Brush Cleaner

Award: Honorable Mention

WHY WE LIKE IT: Innovative design that lets you clean between the slots of grills while still maintaining the ergonomics of a traditional grill brush.

  • May be too big for indoor ranges
  • Less maneuverable than the Weber (our top pick)

[/su_list][/su_box][/su_column]
[/su_row]

This heavy-duty brush is the best exterior grill cleaner for larger grills on our list. It has thick, closely spaced stainless steel bristles to help you scrape away charred debris and grease. It also has a long handle and a reach of 18,” giving you leverage to work with and making it easier to clean larger, outdoor grill and barbecue surfaces, especially if you’ve been using the top-rated burger press to crank out the hamburgers.

Compared to the Weber, it has fewer angles and may have a harder time getting at the edges of the grill, but it does have thick, well-spaced bristles so it cleans the grill bars top and bottom (as well as in between). It also promises not to scratch porcelain grills. It will even work on the best portable grill, not just large ones. The Goo Gone Grill & Grate Cleaner is another one of the best BBQ grill cleaners worth checking out on Amazon.com. This grill cleaner spray is effective at removing grease and leftover food particles, but it’s noted that this cleaning spray shouldn’t be used on aluminum or faux stainless steel surfaces.

#3  OXO Good Grips Electric Grill Brush Grill Cleaner

Award: Best Indoor

WHY WE LIKE IT: With high temp silicone bristles and an ergonomic handle, this compact brush is our pick for the best panini press and indoor grill cleaner.

[su_list icon=”icon: check” icon_color=”#4DB227″]

  • Best electric grill cleaner
  • Won’t scratch non-stick surfaces
  • Strong, silicon brushes for deep ridges

[/su_list][/su_box][/su_column]

[su_column size=”1/2″][su_box title=”Cons” box_color=”#B2B9C3″ radius=”0″][su_list icon=”icon: ban” icon_color=”#B2B9C3″]

  • Not ideal for outdoor barbecue grills
  • Smaller cleaning range than some other grill brushes

[/su_list][/su_box][/su_column]
[/su_row]

Designed for use on indoor grills, panini presses, and even waffle makers, this grill brush from OXO Good Grips is comfortable and effective, with long-wearing, high temp silicone bristles patterned to fit into deep ridges. It’s safe for use on non-stick surfaces and won’t scratch porcelain or Teflon. You can even use this grill cleaner for cleaning out cast iron pots and pans. It is also ideal for cleaning debris and grease on electric indoor grills, panini presses, and stovetop griddles, and it’s also good for cleaning waffle makers. With that said, compare cast iron grills to stainless steel grills to find out which is easier to clean.

The Good Grips brush is a strong contender for the best electric grill cleaner in its price range. It makes quick work of char and baked on grease, yet remains safe for use on all-electric grill surfaces. And unlike steel brushes, they won’t damage cast iron or non-stick skillets. It is dishwasher safe and you should make sure you place it on the upper rack of your dishwasher or where the spray can get to it properly. The best grills are hard to keep clean, but this makes it easy. If you are looking for a grill with a large surface area for searing meat, check our guide to the best flat-top grills.

 #4  Grillers Grill Brush

Award: Most Versatile

WHY WE LIKE IT: This large grill brush comes with an included scraper and features an innovative 360-degree brush rotation, letting you clean large grill surfaces quicker while still getting the edges.

[su_list icon=”icon: check” icon_color=”#4DB227″]

  • Best for large grills
  • Built-in scraper
  • Long, comfortable 18” handle

[/su_list][/su_box][/su_column]

[su_column size=”1/2″][su_box title=”Cons” box_color=”#B2B9C3″ radius=”0″][su_list icon=”icon: ban” icon_color=”#B2B9C3″]

  • Not as wide as the Weber grill brush
  • Not appropriate for non-stick coatings

[/su_list][/su_box][/su_column]
[/su_row]

A deluxe grill cleaner with an included scraper and a 360-degree rotation feature, this large grill brush promises 3-5x faster cleaning of large outdoor grills, like the popular AOG grills. And after you’ve finished cleaning up, it’s good to polish the grates with a clean cloth or damp sponge to get them looking as good as new. It’s good for cleaning gas grills, infrared ranges, traditional pit barbecue grills, smokers, and porcelain grills as well. It has a non-slip handle and tightly wound stainless steel wire with five transverse wire brushes instead of the usual single brush.

Another plus of the Grillart grill cleaner is that it comes with a push broom type degreaser. This makes it useful for griddle surfaces and Foreman Grills, too. Its rotating brush feature lets you more easily get the edges of grill bars. Another one of the best grill cleaners on the market today is the Weiman Stainless Steel Cleaner and Polish, which cleans, shines, and protects your grill and other stainless steel household appliances. Keeping your grill clean is a must since we work hard to keep our patio looking good with things like the best log rack cover.

 #5  Alpha Grillers BBQ Cleaner

Award: Best for Porcelain

WHY WE LIKE IT: This triple-brush bbq cleaner from Alpha Grillers has three longitudinal brushes with thickly spaced stainless steel bristles, so it scrapes well, but it’s safe for porcelain grills too.

[su_row]
[su_column size=”1/2″][su_box title=”Pros” box_color=”#4DB227″ radius=”0″]
[su_list icon=”icon: check” icon_color=”#4DB227″]

  • Great cover from triple head bristles
  • Scraper shaped for grill bars
  • Reinforced, high leverage handle

[/su_list][/su_box][/su_column]

[su_column size=”1/2″][su_box title=”Cons” box_color=”#B2B9C3″ radius=”0″][su_list icon=”icon: ban” icon_color=”#B2B9C3″]

  • May be too bulky for smaller BBQ grills
  • Fixed, non-rotating bristles
  • Placement of scraper means upper bristles will never see use

[/su_list][/su_box][/su_column]
[/su_row]

With a generally well-thought-out design, this combination grill brush and scraper saves time on cleaning outdoor grills and ranges of all types. It’s rated to be safe on porcelain and stainless steel grill bars and with the grease scraper, it can even be useful on flat surfaces.

Like our #4 pick, the Grill Art, this grill brush has multiple bristle cores, but the design, with the scraper on top, along with the fact that the bristles don’t rotate, means that the top sides of each bristle carrier are essentially blocked by the scraper, and can only be used somewhat awkwardly. Since the bristles are fixed to the central wire, they wear out more quickly. The handle, however, is comfortable and reinforced. It is perfect for your lawn and garden area.

Note: Another grill cleaner worth mentioning here that isn’t on our list is the Gone Grill & Grate Cleaner.
The Gone Grill & Grate Cleaner is a super-strength gel that comes in a spray bottle that quickly cleans and removes grease from your grill and grates. It also works on baked-on deposits, caked-on food, and carbon. However, it is strongly advised not to spray on faux stainless steel or aluminum surfaces. It is safe to spray on metals, racks, grates, drip pans, and grill interiors. For the best results, give the formula a minute or two to work its magic after spraying, then polish with a clean cloth or sponge.

How We Decided

To highlight the best grill cleaner options on the market for your outdoor and indoor grills, we narrowed it down to grill brushes that were proven safe and effective on multiple types of grill material. At a minimum, they had to work on stainless steel, iron, and porcelain grills.

We also looked for durability, including only models that scored high marks for lasting quality. A warranty of 1 year or more was a bonus. Ideally, a grill brush should last at least a season for heavy grillers, and one to two years for those who use them occasionally.

Finally, we only looked at grill brushes that were safe and wouldn’t melt to your grill. To that end, we looked for a temperature rating of at least 600º F.

Grill Cleaner Buyers’ Guide

Features to Consider

  1. Bristle material
What kind of bristles you want on your grill cleaner depends in large part on what kind of grill you have. For stainless steel, iron, or porcelain BBQ grills, a stainless steel grill cleaner, along with some high-temperature steam, can safely degrease and de-gunk your grill. The best electric grill cleaners typically have silicon brushes, on the other hand.
  2. Size
If you have a large outdoor grill, you’ll likely want an 18” grill cleaner brush, so you can maintain leverage and not have to put your hand directly over the steam. For a smaller BBQ or indoor grill, however, a smaller brush may give you an easier time.
  3. Scraper
Some grill cleaner brushes come with a scraper. This helps you get rid of deeply baked-on grease and charred material, so it’s worth considering especially if you have an older grill or use it frequently.

Grill Cleaner FAQs

Can you clean a panini press or waffle iron with these?

Depending on the material of the waffle iron or panini press, any of these grill cleaners may work well. You can use a silicon brush like our #3 pick, the OXO Good Grips if you have a non-stick surface, or alternatively, a stainless brush will suffice for cast iron.

Do you need to use a soap or cleaning solution?

For most grill cleaning tasks, these brushes recommend just pre-heating your grill and adding water. Often, the resulting hot steam along with the mechanical scraping action makes the best natural grill cleaner. No harsh chemicals needed.

Which is the best cleaner for a stainless steel grill?

To clean the grill grates of a stainless steel grill, we recommend using one of the proven grill brushes like the Weber, (our top pick) or the Alpha Grillers 18” Grill Brush Cleaner for larger grills. When used with heat, steam or hot vinegar, these will effectively make the grill grates look new.
