As far as pellet grills are concerned, the Pit Boss 700FB has a few tricks that make you question the validity of the best grills. A side shelf, high durability, and extra boiler are hard to come by at this price. The porcelain and side shelf’s availability keep it from being one of the best pellet smokers, but it still makes an admirable effort nonetheless.

Why We Like It – Pit Boss 700FB

The Pit Boss 700FB is a wood pellet grill/flame broiler with ample cooking space. A control board on the shelf ensures you get the exact temperature you want.

Power/Heating

Much like the Traeger Pro 575, wood pellets are used as the primary fuel source for the Pit Boss 700FB. When fired up, the Pit Boss has no trouble reaching the desired temperature, mostly due to the side shelf. Set it up, and it does the rest, ensuring the temperature range is precisely where you want it to be.

Size/Versatility

Lighter than the Green Mountain Grills Davy Crockett, the Pit Boss 700FB is still reasonably heavy for a wood pellet grill. However, this is more than made up for with the inclusion of a broiler attachment. Perfect for getting the sear on meats, it adds another tool in the Pit Boss 700FB.

Durability

Just like the Rec Tec RT 700, the Pit Boss 700FB is perfectly sturdy. The main point of concern here focuses on the griddle. Comprised of porcelain-coated cast iron, it works great when first used out of the box; however, the porcelain will eventually chip off with regular use. Without it, the griddle will stick to anything you put on it without oil. Should you plan on purchasing this grill, know what to do when this happens, or consider the Camp Chef Smokepro 36 SGX.

Ease of Use

A “fire and forget” grill, the Pit Boss 700FB uses digital control to ensure the best results from whatever you’re cooking. Use the grill smoke to your advantage and quickly find yourself making a delicious meal; however, if you want a wood-fired pellet grill that can communicate via WIFI, check the Traeger Pro 575.

Value

One thing to note before you purchase the Pit Boss 700FB, while it has its ups and downs, the most important thing to know is that the side shelf is not standard, meaning you have to look out for the model with the attachment when purchasing one. It’s an odd move from Pit Boss, as something like this should come standard. Just be sure you know what version you’re getting beforehand.

Pit Boss 700FB Wrap Up

A good entry into the world of pellet smokers, the Pit Boss 700FB has all that you need for a great cookout. The featured side shelf, durability, and broiler modes help the Pit Boss make a name for itself, even with issues regarding the griddle and side shelf availability. For those on the hunt for a new grill, keep an eye on the Pit Boss 700FB.
