If you’re looking for the best grills, chances are, you’re specifically looking for the best portable grill options. While the Coleman Roadtrip 285 may not be portable, it is incredibly powerful. Besides its large size, it is so good that it has a real chance of being both the best propane grill and the best camping grill in its price class.

Why We Like It – Coleman Roadtrip 285

Despite its large size, the Coleman Roadtrip 285 manages to be perfect for almost every user out there. Its large cooking surface is fantastic for a big group of people, and the three burners are incredibly potent. And matchless lighting by pressing a button is just the cherry on top.

Power & Heating

The power of the three burners combined comes at around 20000 BTUs. While that might not be as good as the Weber Q1200, it is undoubtedly better than most portable grills out there. The ignition button provides easy ignition, and the temperature can reach about 700 degrees Fahrenheit at max.

Size & Versatility

Similar to the original Coleman Roadtrip grill, this is actually where the Coleman Roadtrip 285 loses its winning streak quite a bit. Even though this grill features quick-fold legs and removable parts, it is tremendously big and bulky overall, as we mentioned before. In that case, you’ll want to try the Coleman Fold N Go propane grill. And, if you don’t like that, pick up the Weber Smokey Joe grill instead.

Durability

The durability and the build quality of this grill are almost as good as the Weber Q2400, which costs nearly 100 bucks more. The cast-iron grates are solidly built, and everything (even the water pan) is rust-resistant. For another sturdy grill, check out our Char-Griller Akorn Jr. review.

Ease Of Use

This is probably one of the easiest portable grills to use. We already mentioned instant Instastart ignition with the press of a button. It even has three dedicated temperature zones with sensors for accurately controlling the temperature. But do note, that you need 16.4 oz propane cylinders (sold separately) to operate this grill.

Value

For just $250, the Coleman Roadtrip 285 is an excellent value-for-money grill. If you don’t care about the size and the weight, it will be perfect for you. Because on top of the advanced features, it also comes with a three-year limited warranty in the United States.

Coleman Roadtrip 285 Wrap Up

All in all, the Coleman Roadtrip 285 is a fantastic grill for new and veteran users alike. If you’ve got 250 bucks to spend on a grill, this is a great one to pick.
