It’s always good to keep your personal interests in mind when you’re shopping for the best grills. For example, if you like football or camping, then maybe looking at the best camping grill would be beneficial. To this end, the Coleman Roadtrip LXE should be on your list of considerations as both a camping grill and tailgating grill.

Why We Like It – Coleman Roadtrip LXE

The Coleman Roadtrip LXE Grill is an exceptionally powerful and portable grill that can rival larger, freestanding barbecues with the amount of BTUs it can produce. Add to that it’s exceptionally large grilling surface, and you have a grill that’s great for camping and tailgate parties.

Power/Heating

The Coleman Roadtrip Grill LXE can deliver an impressive 20,000 BTU’s of power across it’s two burners. Or if you prefer, 10,000 BTU’s per burner. While this is the average for large, freestanding barbecues, it’s an exceptional amount of power for a portable grill. But if you don’t really need that much power for your outing, consider the Blackstone Table Top Grill.

Size/Versatility

The Coleman Grill sports a very impressive 285 square inches of cooking space. The Weber Q1200 has 100 square feet less cooking area than that and it can still comfortably fit four medium-sized steaks and some veggies, so imagine how much the best Coleman Roadtrip grill can manage. The one downside is that it’s not a charcoal grill, so you’re stuck with needing to buy propane tanks.

Durability

At just under 50 pounds, the Coleman LXE Portable Gas Grill is one of the heftier portable grills around. This means it’s not going to be as easily portable as the Weber Q1000, for example. But it’s not all bad. It’s greatly wind resistant, and the porcelain-coated cast iron grill grates not only distribute heat evenly so it’s not all concentrated to one side but add to the life of the grates too.

Ease of Use

The side tables make for convenient areas to place your grilling tools and cooking spices. The cast iron grates are also easier to clean thanks to the porcelain coating, and set-up is as easy as sliding out the legs from underneath the grill. Of course, if there is a picnic stand or some other surface available, you can leave the grill in the collapsed position.

Value

It’s not available on Amazon right now so it’s hard for me to tell you whether this is worth the purchase or not. But, the Cuisinart gas grill, which is portable and quite good, is available. My guess would be a price tag of just over $100.00, which, again, is worth it. If you’d like, you can also purchase the swaptop interchangeable cooktops to allow you to switch grill grates out for griddle and stove grates.

Coleman Roadtrip LXE Wrap Up

It would have been cool if the Coleman Roadtrip LXE Grill had a charcoal option, this way it could have been a true camping man’s grill, but I’m not going to dwell too heavily on that. The fact is the grill produces freestanding barbecue heat with larger-than-average portable grill space into a worthy package.
