The Samsung LU28E590DS is Samsung’s attempt at making a gaming monitor with an image quality that’ll draw more attention than in just the gaming community. With its ability to display over a billion colors, a rapid 1ms response time, and AMD Freesync support, this monitor is only brought down by its inability to have the stand removed and low viewing angles. Nevertheless, the Samsung LU28E590DS still earns a spot on our list for best 4K monitor. But does it earn a spot on our list of the best computer monitors? Only one way to find out!

Why We Like It – Samsung LU28E590DS

With impressive viewing angles and picture quality, the Samsung LU28E590DS 4K Ultra HD 28 LED Monitor is a TN panel that attempts to be a jack of all trades.

Pros
  • 1ms response time
  • AMD Freesync offers superior picture
  • Displays over 1 billion colors
Cons
  • Stand is difficult to remove
  • Low viewing angles

Performance

The Samsung LU28E590DS was meant to be a gaming monitor first and foremost, and gaming monitors tend to be the pinnacle when it comes to tech specs. Out of the box, the LU28E590DS comes with a 4K resolution, adding a 1ms response time with Freesync means that competitive gamers can take every advantage with this monitor.

Viewing Angle

For all the good the Samsung LU28E590DS is able to offer, there is one unfortunate note to address with Samsung’s monitor. Unless you stand perfectly at the center of the LU28E590DS, you won’t be getting the best viewing angles. Pair that with a large bezel size, and it feels as if there’s very little room to enjoy the Samsung LU28E590DS. Which is a shame, as it produces a great picture. For those looking for a monitor with better viewing angles, the LG 27UK650-W is a viable alternative.

Adjustability

Even with the Samsung LU28E590DS’s stellar screen, the ability to adjust is an ability that this monitor seems to lack. While the included stand offers the standard versatility one would expect, the matter of transferring it to a VESA mount is an ordeal in itself. Tough and difficult to remove, the stand makes it frustrating to mount the monitor, taking a relatively painless procedure and making it harder than it needs to be. For those looking for an easier monitor to mount, the BenQ SW321C PhotoVue is mountable in minutes.

Durability

For a monitor in the 400 dollar price range, the Samsung LU28E590DS feels like a solid monitor. The bezels help protect the screen and the stand keeps it stable. Of course, the matter of taking out the stand to mount the monitor is a whole different situation. This might be the rare moment when a stand is too solid for its own sake.

Samsung LU28E590DS Wrap Up

When it comes to an LED panel, there are those who love it or hate it. The Samsung LU28E590DS wants to change minds with it’s 1ms response time and Freesync compatibility. Even with the somewhat difficult stand and low viewing angles, the Samsung LU28E590DS is a strong choice for those who want to game or get serious in their work.
