What could possibly be the best laptop for students due to its performance and for having various types of ports for device compatibility, the Dell Latitude 7490 is a business laptop that can also be a laptop for entertainment with how its performance and resolution is great for watching movies.

Why We Like It – Dell Latitude 7490

The Dell Latitude 7490 has plenty of ports for the user to use for high quality, has three reliable security features, and provides decent visuals for things such as watching movies and projects that require basic color accuracy. The laptop’s performance is also good, as it has 8 gigabytes of RAM and an intel core i5 processor.

Power/Performance

Unlike the Dell G5 15 5590, this laptop doesn’t contain a newer processor such as the intel core i7. It contains a quad core processor known as the Intel i5-8350U, an intel core i5 processor, that delivers fast performance to the point that it helps display higher end graphics. Both laptops contain solid state drives that not only make it easier for the computer to perform tasks compared to traditional drives, but also provide a great amount of disk storage space.

Battery

It has an impressive battery life, having the ability to operate for up to 12 hours until it has to be recharged, similarly to the Apple Macbook Air. Since both laptops have solid state drives, the drives are less likely to affect the overall power consumption. As long as the screen’s not too bright, or there isn’t an application that would cause the fan to spin at a higher speed, the battery life can reach the full 12 hours.

Ports/Expandability

This versatile assortment of ports consists of usb c/usb type c, card reader, Ethernet, DisplayPort, audio/microphone jack, HDMI, and USB 3.1 ports. It also offers Bluetooth, gigabit ethernet, and wi fi connectivity, with the wi fi having the 802.11ac connectivity standard. Most of these ports provide either fast data transfers or high quality visuals when the computer is connected to a bigger screen. There’s also a faster charging speed for smaller devices such as phones.

Build quality

The laptop has a noticeably thicker appearance compared to the Dell XPS 13 7390’s ultra slim design due to all of the ports that it has. This could create some vulnerability to its design, as it’s more likely to cause damage in case a component loosens and travels within the chassis. However, the chassis is made of plastic material, which adds to the potential vulnerability that the laptop can have.

Value

While it’s expensive, it also has a lot to offer. In addition to various types of ports to provide an amazing amount of device compatibility, some of it’s features include a Microsoft Precision touchpad that have gestures and precision controls, 8 gigabytes of RAM, and a touch screen. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have free shipping to somewhat ease the overall cost. Unless you buy a refurbished version of this laptop, that price won’t get much lower.
