The AOC AGON AG493UCX 49″ curved immersive gaming monitor is the perfect way to experience a fully immersive gaming experience. With an aspect ratio of 32:9 on a 49-inch QHD display complete with DisplayHDR technology, this monitor is sure to become a favorite in your current gaming setup. Moreover, it can’t compete with the ASUS ProArt professional curved monitor, which you can learn more about in our write-up.

  • USB C Docking
  • 178° Viewing Angle
Cons
  • Poor Customer Service

Performance

Delivering a smooth, realistic gaming experience is the goal of any gaming monitor, and the AG493UCX definitely delivers. This monitor has a dual QHD curved VA panel with a resolution of 5120×1440, which is basically the equivalent of two QHD monitors side-by-side! The panel has an extremely low response time of 1ms and a refresh rate of 120Hz (for a higher maximum refresh rate of 144Hz, give the Asus ROG Strix XG438Q a try!). It uses AMD FreeSync Premium Pro to eliminate stuttering and tearing for the perfect gaming experience. But, if you really want to amp up your gaming experience with a monitor that offers a 165Hz refresh rate, check out this Aorus CV27Q gaming monitor.

Viewing Angle

The AG493UCX has a wide viewing angle of 178 degrees, which undoubtedly makes it one of the best curved monitors. Combined with the giant 49″ screen, you should have no trouble seeing images on the screen regardless of where you are sitting relative to the monitor, at least what’s not blocked by the back of the monitor. Since the screen is curved, the more you go to one side the more will be blocked from view by the side of the monitor, so even though the monitor technically has a viewing angle of 178 degrees, real-life applications will be slightly less depending on where you sit. While the viewing angle may be a challenge on this monitor, it won’t be a problem for this Acer Predator XB271HK 4K 27 gaming monitor.

Durability

Unlike the Alienware AW3420DW, which lacks a USB-C port, the AOC AGON AG493UCX has a wide variety of connections including a USB-C port, two USB 3.0 ports, two HDMI ports, two DisplayPorts, & a 3.5 audio out port. You can switch through multiple device input options with the built-in KVM-switch built-in, and this monitor also offers Picture-by-Picture support. If you decide not to use headphones, this monitor has two built-in 5-watt speakers which should provide an adequate (but not excellent) listening experience.

Ports & Expandability

Unlike the Alienware AW3420DW, which lacks a USB-C port, the AOC AGON AG493UCX has a wide variety of connections including a USB-C port, two USB 3.0 ports, two HDMI ports, two DisplayPorts, & a 3.5 audio out port. You can switch through multiple device input options with the built-in KVM-switch built-in, and this monitor also offers Picture-by-Picture support. If you decide not to use headphones, this monitor has two built-in 5-watt speakers which should provide an adequate (but not excellent) listening experience.

Value

You can pick up the AG493UCX for only $999.99 (the Asus ROG PG279Q is a smaller but cheaper alternative). This puts it in the mid-to-low price range, at least as far as 49″ ultra-wide monitors go. The price is definitely a positive, but the value of this device really shines through with its manufacturer’s warranty! AOC offers a four-year warranty against dead pixels with advance replacement. They also offer a one-year single-use warranty against accidental damage, which should give you some peace of mind. One more bonus? Both shipping and returns are free.

AOC AGON AG493UCX 49″ Curved Immersive Gaming Monitor Wrap Up

The AOC AGON AG493UCX 49″ Curved Immersive Gaming Monitor is the perfect monitor for anyone who’s serious about gaming and has $1,000 to invest. The customer service may be poor, but they do offer better warranties than most other manufacturers, and judging by the customer rating of 4.1/5-stars on Amazon, it seems unlikely you would need it anyway.
