The Dell P2417H is an adequate choice for a display that is okay for both your home and office needs. The IPS monitor is part of the Dell Premium Panel Exchange program making it eligible for a free panel replacement if needed within the given warranty period. This is one of the many benefits that Dell’s Advanced Exchange Service offers to its customers. The Dell monitor’s screen size at 24 inches may not be so exciting for gamers, but its 1000:1 contrast ratio guarantees that the deep black colors pop. For its affordable price, it is one of the best cheap monitors you can get. If you can shoot for a bit more for a monitor, check out our list of some of the best computer monitors around.

Why We Like It – Dell P2417H

The Dell P2417H is an affordable 24 inch monitor that is well suited for your day to day display needs. The IPS panel has a response time of 6ms for quick game responsiveness, a decent refresh rate of 60Hz that provides good visual quality, and a low input lag of 10ms to keep you up to speed with the competition.

Pros
  • IPS panel type for accurate color reproduction
  • Fast 6ms response time
  • Dell’s Advanced Exchange Service warranty
Cons
  • Lack of FreeSync adaptive technology is discouraging for gamers
  • No support for HDR content

Performance

The Dell P2417H doesn’t have that many features & capabilities to entice gamers, or be a designer’s go-to display. It is however fit for multimedia use thanks to its wide viewing angles, and great picture quality due to its Full HD 1080p resolution. The Dell monitor doesn’t really have support for AMD FreeSync, so the 60Hz refresh rate is standard. In these two aspects, the Sceptre E205W-16003R is much better equipped. The Dell P2417H will require calibration for the best image out of the box, but it does include Dell’s ComfortView feature that reduces blue light emission to keep your eyes safe over long hours of use.

Design

The Dell P2417H has decent looks, placing it almost at par with the HP VH240a in terms of design. It comes with a small stand that offers good support, and a small hole for cable management. The display can easily be adjusted to a portrait setting, and it can also be tilted or swiveled for the best viewing experience. In terms of connectivity, the Dell monitor has a 1 DisplayPort, 1 HDMI port, 1 VGA port and a total of 5 USB ports that consist of both USB 2 & USB 3. It also comes with a power cable, USB cable, VGA cable and a DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable. The monitor is built in a very thin side profile, and can be VESA mounted on a wall.

Value

The value of the Dell P2417H monitor depends on what you intend to do with it. Gamers & anyone else who is involved in color-focussed work won’t find it as much of a choice given the standard features, and could be better off with the Acer SB220Q. Anyone else who intends to use it for movies or office work shouldn’t have an issue. The 3 year Advanced Exchange program for Dell products also covers this monitor, and it helps take care of any unforeseen damages through its 1 – 5 year warranty coverage.

Dell P2417H Wrap Up

The Dell P2417H is a decent buy for anyone who is tight on a budget, and still needs a monitor to get things done. A good response time and input lag will allow you to squeeze as much as you can from this monitor at the office, but for gamers and more demanding professionals however, this is a good purchase only if you’re saving up for a more spec’d out display in the near future.
