If you’re looking for an alternative to the Logitech Harmony universal remotes that brings something new to the table, check out the Ray Super Remote, the best universal remote that has a smartphone app interface (without the necessity to use your smartphone).

The Ray Super Remote actually looks very similar to a smartphone, with a 4.6 inch vibrant touchscreen and just a few buttons on its side. If you’re looking to upgrade your experience in other ways, take a look at some of the best HDMI adapters on the market. It is just 5.5in x 2.5in x .5in and weights just 6oz and has a 1.0 GHz dual core CPU with 1GB RAM. The battery, which has a 2550 mAh battery capacity, lasts for ten days and is rechargeable (so you don’t have to deal with buying AA or AAA batteries). It uses WiFi, Infrared, ZigBee and Bluetooth technologies to communicate with virtually all of your devices, making it a hub for your entertainment. Ray is compatible with over 200,000 devices, including television, set-top boxes, Roku 2 & 3, Apple TV, Blu-ray players, Xbox 360 & Xbox One (and no, before you ask, there was no mention of PS3 or PS4 compatibility). Ray claims that their Super Remote is a “flying car for your television.” It uses a visual user interface and one-touch technology that allows you to just touch your favorite show and it comes on, without the necessity to scroll through the TV guide and search for it. There’s also a kids mode that makes it easier for kids, themselves, to turn on what they want to watch by using vibrant character icons that they can touch to bring up their favorite show. Set up is easy, and according to Ray, all you need is a Wi-Fi connection and link to your TV provider and devices.

The Ray Super Remote is not yet available, but you can pre-order it now before its launch in May 2015.
