How We Decided
To help narrow down to the above list, we made sure to pick some options for beginners and some for seasoned skateboarding veterans, with a couple right in the middle for good measure. To that end, the motors on offer achieve a wide variety of maximum speeds, from seven miles per hour to 22 miles per hour.
As far as durability, we made sure that every item we picked featured some measure of water resistance, to protect the internal components, and ended up preferring skateboards made from bamboo, maplewood, fiberglass and other high quality materials.
We also liked products that could ascend hills, up to inclines of 15 degrees, though even the strongest electric skateboard could still struggle with ultra-steep hills. Additionally, we tested out all of the built-in batteries, ensuring they could last around six miles on a single charge, at the minimum.
We took a long look at the included remote controls, making sure they were easy and safe to use, with plenty of options for beginners and pros alike. Finally, we tested the battery life of each and every pick, ensuring they could last for at least 40 minutes on a full charge, with a maximum distance of at least six miles, and that they reached a full charge in a couple of hours.
