The Surface Laptop is considered Micorosoft’s answer to Apple’s Macbook Air, though the jury is still out on whether or not it is up to par in terms of features. It comes with a 13.5 inch LCD display that has a resolution of 2256 x 1504 pixels, a 3:2 aspect ratio, and a brightness of 379 nits that’s higher than that of the 2018 Macbook Pro. If you want a laptop with a wider screen, you might be interested in our Toshiba Satellite L875-S7108 17 inch laptop review instead. The display is also a touchscreen, and features Corning’s Gorilla Glass for a good level of damage resistance. When picking which Microsoft Surface Laptop to buy, Microsoft allows you to choose between options such as 8GB or 16GB of memory, and a Core i5 or Core i7 processor. Why We Like It – Microsoft Surface 2

Launched towards the end of 2018, the Microsoft Surface Laptop 2 is one of the best ultrabooks you can get for business purposes. It comes packed with a Core i5-8250u processor, an Intel UHD Graphics Card, and Windows Hello to provide more secure and personalized access to your device.

Pros
  • 13.5 inch Full HD Touchscreen display
  • Long 14.5 Hour Battery Life
  • Elegant Design
Cons
  • No USB Type C Ports
  • Not suitable for gaming

Performance

The Microsoft Surface 2 Laptop may be outdated by newer versions such as the Surface Pro in terms of performance, but it still allows you to do a lot of things without much hassle. The laptop uses the Windows operating system by default, and its cheapest option comes with an Intel Core i5-8250u processor, 8 GB of RAM and a 128 GB SSD drive. It also has a front facing 720p camera, and a 45Wh battery. It’s Intel UHD Graphics 620 GPU won’t allow you to do a lot of gaming, but the 45Wh battery is pretty similar in capacity to that of the Asus ZenBook 14 as it allows for a decent 6-7 hours of use out of 14 hours of battery life.

Design

The Microsoft Surface Laptop 2 is indeed a spitting image of the Original Surface Laptop, retaining its sophisticated design and alcantara fabric. The material is soft to the touch, and makes for a pleasurable typing experience. Unlike the Razer Blade Stealth 13, the Microsoft Surface laptop also has high end aluminium that lends to it a premium feel. The laptop comes in platinum, burgundy or cobalt, but we think the black color does it the most justice. This not so new laptop also comes with 1 USB port, a mini-DisplayPort output and a headphone jack – quite limited if you ask most people.

Value

Aside from the new color, the Surface 2 doesn’t offer that much value compared to the original surface. The one upgrade that makes the most difference is the Intel Core i7 processor, which is at the higher end of options you can choose for your Surface Book 2. The laptop is also a bit more expensive than the Lenovo Yoga 720, and while the Dell XPS may earn slightly more praise than the Surface Book 2 due to its 4K display and lighter weight, Microsoft’s Surface Book 2 has a lot more value to offer than those two alternatives.

Microsoft Surface 2 Wrap Up

As we come to the end of this Microsoft Surface Laptop 2 Review, it’s worth noting that since the Surface Book 2 was released in 2018, there have been more Surface Laptops added to the range. This means you can definitely get a lot more power and high specs with the later releases, but if you’re just looking for a reliable machine for everyday use, the Surface Book 2 should fit your preferences.
