If you’re workspace is anything like mine, there is little room for new work-related residents without the need to evict current productivity squatters. I really want the best monitor stand. I would love to have a 3D surround sound setup where three monitors are linked together for ultra wide and ultra ridiculous resolutions. Enter Knoll and the Sapper XYZ monitor arm. This thing is really cool and widely simple. It’s a heavy metal arm with a prosaic mounting system constructed from 95% recycled materials. Most of the tools needed to for installation are included in the kit. You get an Allen wrench and clamp compression screws. There is also the monitor mounting plate which screws into the back of your monitor with four “customer supplied” screws. The package also includes a plastic clip for cable management and plastic square block to block your monitor cables from falling out from the well under the mid section of the arm, where the cables will run.

The Sapper supports a display weighing up to 20lbs. So 30in monitors are probably a no-go. I connected the monitor mounting bracket with 4-screws. Then you can easily attach the mounting bracket to the arm with a single metal peg. From there, the arm slips over a stem which protrudes from the table clamp. That’s about it. It’s a simple installation that works like a charm for number of different tables desks and the various positions they may be in–like against walls and other surfaces.

Working with the Knoll Sapper Monitor Arm is very refreshing and will create a cleaner working environment where your monitor is virtually levitating up out of the way from your surface space. It creates more usable surface area with a severe reduction in footprint than a tradition monitor stand. You can pivot the thing a full 180 degrees, pull it up or down 165 degrees and rotate the thing at the bracket for a full 360 degrees to put your monitor in portrait or landscape mode for displays that support such.
But that ain’t it. The Knoll Sapper is pretty versatile too. It can be ordered in a variety of finishes. We’re working on the distinguished midnight black model. There are also a decent variety of mounting options including grommet mount, mounts for fixed tables, workspaces positioned against walls as mentioned above and antenna table center beam side mounts. Use the Fast Release peg to quickly remove the monitor and the movement joint to extend the arm to it’s fullest height . You can adjust tilt and rotation friction with a few twists of the included Allen Wrench at the mounting bracket. For a full 20lbs monitor you may want to tweak the weight adjustment to support it properly. This too can be achieved with the Allen Wrench.
Bottom Line: The Knoll Sapper Monitor Arm is a fantastic product where the functionality easily lends itself to personal, business or service worker utilization. Installation takes mere minutes and is very simple. It’s a strong apparatus that manages a lightweight design with mostly recycled materials. Plus it works as advertised to keep your work area clean with more usable surface.
