How We Decided

After 24 hours of testing alarm clocks from various reputable brands, we came up with a list of products that had all the features we were looking for. For kids’ alarm clocks to truly provide you with some peace of mind, it’s important that they’re fairly easy to operate so that you can be relaxed yourself before the kids hit the sack. Then they can dream of the best scooter for kids.

You and your children must find the time easy to read. Clocks with a small display and unreadable numbers will make learning how to tell time more difficult and as such were excluded from our list. The alarm must also be pleasant to wake up to. Louder alarm sounds may be good for older kids (pre-teens to teens) but not for kids who you want to wake up peacefully. Lastly, they must also be made of durable material in case of any accidental falls. Bonus points were given to clocks with a night light function and amusing designs.

The alarm clocks in this review are geared towards preschoolers who are ready to receive and follow instructions about bedtime. Because we were thinking of younger kids, we excluded clocks that feature a clock face (with hand and minute hands), which would require some advanced learning about numerals and counting.

The Most Important Features to Consider

  1. Control buttons
When choosing the best alarm clock for your kids, pick one that’s easy to operate. Choose clocks that have well-placed buttons and easy-to-understand labels.
  2. Readability
Alarm clocks can be a great way for children to start learning about numbers when the digital clock display is clear to look at, whether during the day or at night.
  3. Safety
Toddlers should be given durable clocks that can sit on a table without danger of toppling off. Or they can be positioned in a way that won’t harm children if they accidentally hit them.
  4. Night Light
Some children are scared of the dark or being alone. Dim night lighting or even multi-color lighting can relax children and make bedtime something for them to look forward to.
  5. Wake up light
A wake up light is a gentle way to effectively win your child’s trust in terms of using an alarm clock. It also teaches them to respect house rules about staying quiet and not bothering dad or mom before the alarm sounds off. It’s important to get a clock with a wake up light that’s bright enough to catch your kid’s attention in the mornings.
  6. Alarm sound
Knowing what type of sound the alarm makes will help you determine whether it’s the right clock for your child. Clocks that play certain music of your choice will be more appropriate for toddlers.

Kids Alarm Clock FAQs

How can a kids’ alarm clock improve children’s bedtime and waking up habits?

You first have to decide what time you want your kids to sleep at night and wake up in the morning. Talk to them about this schedule and how to use an alarm clock to help them wake up. Shorten nap times if you want them to hit the sack early, and avoid eating dinner or serving extra snacks two to three hours before bedtime. Make evenings and pre-bedtime hours a pleasurable experience. You can read stories to your child or do some other bonding activity to put them at ease.

Does my child really need an alarm clock?

Can’t I simply wake them up in the morning? If you’re new to parenthood, you might be surprised to learn that sleep training is essential for young children and helps them get into a healthy routine and sleeping pattern. Setting a sleeping schedule with a wake-up time, nap time, and time to sleep will help you kids fall asleep naturally. Young children without a proper bedtime or wake-up schedule are more likely to stay up all night, feel tired in the morning, and want to stay in bed. That’s why supporting your children while they adapt to a sleeping routine is important, and kid-friendly alarm clocks are an excellent tool for the job. Not only can alarm clocks be fun and exciting for children, but many models also come with a built-in sleep trainer function, sound machine, baby monitor, white noise, night light, and many other useful features to make putting your kids to bed less of a chore.
