Best Bedroom & Sleeping in 2020 (November Reviews)

Lawrence Bonk Vertifed by: Lawrence Bonk Last Updated: 13 Jul 2020

The best bedroom and sleeping product that we tried was easily the Casper Sleep Element Mattress. It’s a fantastic all-around mattress that gives a good night of sleep via three layers of premium foam, for support and breathability, and an easy-to-clean removable cover, which we found to be extremely comfortable. It also ships in a relatively small box, requiring next to no setup, and comes with the company’s 100-night trial guarantee.

To help you find the best things to put in your bedroom to help you sleep, or just to improve your quality of life, we have tried out a multitude of top products, testing to ensure that they excel with their advertised functions to positively impact your sleep. We populated the below list with useful bedroom essentials, from mattresses and pillows to alarm clocks and humidifiers. Keep reading to learn more about the Casper Sleep Element Mattress and the other items on this list.

Top 7 Best Bedroom and Sleeping

 #1  Casper Sleep Element Mattress

Award: TOP PICK

WHY WE LIKE IT: One of the most iconic mattress designs in the business, with triple layers of premium foam, for comfort, and an easy-to-clean removable cover, in addition to coming with the company’s 100-night trial guarantee.

Pros
  • Triple layers of foam for excellent support
  • 100-night trial guarantee
  • Sizes range from twin to California King
Cons
  • Mattress material may retain too much heat for some consumers
  • May be too firm for some people, though it is not stiff
  • Requires actual bed frame, and not just metal slats

The Casper Sleep Element Mattress is a fantastically comfortable and convenient-to-use mattress, with three layers of premium foam, for enhanced comfort and stability, and an easy-to-clean and removable cover that helps to regulate body temperature. We also loved that these mattresses are available in all sizes, ranging from twin to California King, and that they ship with the company’s 100 night trial guarantee, meaning you can return it at any time during that time frame.

Though we found this item helped to produce an excellent bedroom environment for good sleep, the mattress may be too firm for some consumers, though it is not stiff by any means and gave us a premium sleep quality. Additionally, this bed excels with an actual frame that offers full support and doesn’t do quite as well with just metal or wooden slats. If this mattress is a bit too firm for you, take a look at this list to find the best mattress for you.

#2  American Lifetime Premium Day Clock

Award: HONORABLE MENTION

WHY WE LIKE IT: Features an extremely large screen, with a resolution of 800 x 600, with a polished metal frame and plenty of customization options, in addition to built-in battery backup, should your home lose power.

Pros
  • Best for visually impaired
  • Highly customizable, with ability to set 5 daily alarms
  • Battery backup
Cons
  • No snooze option
  • May be too bright for some consumers
  • Needs to be manually adjusted when time changes

This American Lifetime Premium Day Clock is a fantastic option for the visually impaired, thanks to its large 800 x 600 screen which is big enough to display the date and time without any confusing abbreviations. We also loved the aesthetically pleasing polished steel frame and the built-in battery backup, which ensures your alarm will still go off even if your home loses power. The customization options were also plentiful, allowing consumers to set up to five alarms each day.

Though we loved the customization options, it does lack a snooze button, which could be an issue for some folks. Also, the screen is somewhat bright, even the blue light of its dimmest setting, which could not make for a sleep-friendly bedroom to certain consumers. If all you need is an alarm clock, try here to find the best alarm clock for your space.

#3  Kunpeng Shredded Memory Foam Bed Pillow

Award: BEST FOR NECK

WHY WE LIKE IT: Great for pain-free sleeping, thanks to a design that aligns with the spine’s natural curvature and micro-vents that help to keep the pillow cool, while shipping with a fantastic brand promise.

Pros
  • User customizable filling
  • Free from toxic materials
Cons
  • Pillow is not machine washable, though cover is
  • Heavy when filled to maximum
  • Arrives with chemical smell, though it fades

This Kunpeng Shredded Memory Foam Bed Pillow is a highly customizable product which can suit the tastes of nearly any consumer just by removing or adding filling. It is also one of the best things to put in your bedroom for sleep, thanks to a design that aligns with the natural curvature of the spine and micro-vents located throughout, helping to keep you cool. It helped us fall asleep fast and reduced our trouble sleeping.

Due to the nature of the design, this pillow is not machine washable, though the cover certainly is. Additionally, we found that it shipped with a fairly strong chemical odor, though that faded after a night or two of use. If you want to keep the rest of your room clean, take a look at the best robot vacuum too.

#4  Utopia Bedding Printed Comforter Set

Award: BEST BEDSPREAD

WHY WE LIKE IT: Budget-friendly item that ships with 3 pieces, a comforter and 2 pillow shams, with a machine washable design and manufactured using extremely comfortable microfiber.

Pros
  • Budget-friendly and ships with 3 pieces
  • Machine washable
  • Brushed microfiber is extremely comfortable
Cons
  • Sizes run slightly small
  • Only 1 design and 2 color options
  • No California king size

This Utopia Bedding Printed Comforter Set is a budget-friendly product that still ships with three separate pieces, a comforter and two pillow shams, all of which are machine washable. The comforter is filled with comfortable brushed microfiber and boasts extremely solid stitching, adding to the product’s tensile strength.

Though this item comes in a variety of sizes, from twin to king, we found that they ran slightly small, so take that into consideration before you purchase. Also, there is only one design on option, with availability in two colors, so it may not suit the feng shui bedroom aesthetics of every consumer. Compare the Utopia with other brands on the market to find the best comforter set for your space.

#5  Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress

Award: BEST FOR RVs

WHY WE LIKE IT: Fantastic mattress for RV and camper travelers, thanks to a sizing that is manufactured to fit RV bed frames, dual foam layers for added comfort and built-in odor reduction technology.

Pros
  • Infused with the natural odor-fighting materials
  • Dual foam design which is extremely comfortable
Cons
  • May be too short for some consumers
  • Maximum weight 500 lb
  • Not that firm

This Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress is perfect for those who travel in campers, as it comes in a “short Queen” size which is manufactured to fit the kinds of bed frames that typically come with RVs and the six inch height won’t take up too much space. We also loved the dual foam design, which includes one inch of memory foam on top, and that the mattress has been infused with green tea to help fight odor.

The company recommends a maximum weight limit of 500 pounds for this mattress, which could be an issue if two full grown adults and a child are planning to share it. Additionally, we found the mattress to not be particularly firm, which could turn off certain consumers, though may please others.

#6  DHP 8-Inch Independently Encased Coil Futon Mattress

Award: BEST FOR COLLEGE DORM ROOMS

WHY WE LIKE IT: Fantastic futon design with excellent weight distribution, availability in 6 gorgeous colors and topped with a layer of comfortable foam, in addition to being filled with 15-gauge pocket coils.

Pros
  • Sturdy and easy to setup
  • Wide color availability
  • Topped with layer of comfortable foam
Cons
  • Does not come with cover
  • Fairly stiff the first few nights
  • Only available in full

The DHP 8-Inch Independently Encased Coil Futon Mattress is the best futon mattress we tried, thanks to a design that maximizes weight distribution, making it perfect for solo sleepers or for pairs. We also loved the 15-gauge pocket coils that comprise the interior and the comfortable top layer of foam. It even fits any full-size futon frame, which is nice.

Though it fits full-sized frames nicely, it only fits full-sized frames, as full is the only size available for purchase. Also, we found that the mattress was fairly stiff the first few nights, though that faded in time and it became much more comfortable. For your bathroom needs, you may want to take a look at some of these bathroom essentials.

 #7  Homech Quiet Ultrasonic Humidifier

Award: BEST FOR ALLERGIES AND COLDS

WHY WE LIKE IT: Fantastic product with a large water tank, offering 60 hours of continuous use, an auto shutdown feature, for safety, and a quick clean design that helps mold from growing.

Pros
  • 3-5 days of one tank
  • Quiet, with cool mist that is perfect for sleeping
  • Auto shutdown when tank is dry
Cons
  • No night light
  • No water tank indicator

The Homech Quiet Ultrasonic Humidifier is a fantastic product that creates a cool mist that helps to optimize the sleep environment, with a quiet design, operating at just 26dB, and an auto shutdown feature that turns the product off when the tank is dry. It can also hold over a gallon of water, which allows for around 60 hours of continuous use on its lowest setting. We also loved the quick clean design, which helps reduce mold and bacteria growth.

Though we loved the quiet design, we did notice that this humidifier does not feature a night light, which is a feature many consumers look for when purchasing one of these items. Additionally, there is no indicator to let you know when the water tank is low, requiring you to eyeball it. If you like this humidifier, you may want to also take a look at the best air purifier.

How We Decided

To help narrow down to the above list, we focused primarily on a wide range of popular bedroom items, including mattresses, comforter sets, pillows and alarm clocks. We also made sure to provide items for a variety of use settings, including standard bedrooms, guest rooms, RVs and campers, among others.

For each particular item and category, we made sure the product we chose was the best-of-the-best, comparing them to several well regarded products in their specific use scenario. We liked items that were durably made from high quality components and those that were easy to set-up and to use, with form factors that truly excelled at creating a sleep-friendly bedroom.

We ended up preferring products that brought a little something extra to the table, whether that be added functionality, as in the case of our favorite alarm clock and humidifier. Any one of the above items will make your bedroom better for sleeping.

Bedroom and Sleeping Buyer’s Guide

The Most Important Features to Consider

  1. Bedroom Environment
You are going to want to produce the ideal bedroom environment that is maximally conducive to sleep. To that end, the above list has plenty of options to help you get started, from high quality mattresses to large alarm clocks, humidifiers and beyond. Just think about what you need to make your bedroom more relaxing for sleep and move on from there.
  2. High Quality Components
Pick products made from durable and high quality components and related materials. When it comes to mattresses, look for memory foam toppers and removable and machine washable covers. With alarm clocks, look for large screens that are easily visible from across the room and the capacity to program multiple alarms. For humidifiers, look for large tanks that can run continuously for many hours at a time. When it comes to pillows, you’ll want to pick something that minimizes wear and tear on the body, thus reducing nighttime pain.
  3. Feng Shui
Applying simple feng shui tips to the design of your bedroom can help you sleep better. We recommend investing in a large mattress, such as a Queen or above, and placing it in the center of your room and out of the way of the bedroom door. Maximize air flow by getting some adjustable blinds and, perhaps most importantly, limit the number of gadgets and screens available for perusal in your sleeping area. Other tips include color matching and the addition of simple plants.

The best mattresses will give you the rest you deserve, while the best alarm clock will wake you up on time. It’s also important to keep your bedroom air healthy with the best air purifier.

Bedroom and Sleeping FAQs

How can I make my bedroom perfect for sleep?

First, start by purchasing a great mattress, such as our top pick, and place it in the center of the room, away from clutter and the bedroom door. Try to keep your living area cool with the use of a cool mist humidifier or an air conditioner or fan. We also suggest eliminating all reminders of work, such as office areas or banners. Other tips? Invest in a good comforter set, such as our number four pick.

Is it healthier to sleep in a cool room?

Experts say yes. Sleeping in a cool and properly humidified room creates a hormone called melatonin, which is an antioxidant, in addition to a sleep agent. Of course, try not to go overboard, as a freezing room is no good for anyone.

Is it better to sleep without a pillow?

That depends. Some experts believe that lying flat on your back without a pillow can lead to better sleep and a healthier spine, but that assumes your mattress is the exact firmness to support such an outcome. Additionally, side and stomach sleepers should never forgo a pillow.

Should you sleep in the dark?

Yes, though the light emitted from a night light or a small alarm display should be fine. Resting in darkness lets the body prepare for sleep and you’ll find it leads to a quicker and deeper rest. Sleeping with lights on can affect sleep and increase sleep disorders, which can lead to health complications, such as an elevated heart rate and high blood pressure, according to sleep specialists and the National Sleep Foundation.
