There could be a new king in the noise-canceling headphones world, and these Sony earbuds are those potential kings. A successor to the WF-1000X, these new wireless headphones feature many improvements in sound quality and noise cancellation. Those in competition for these true wireless earbuds should take note if they haven’t already.

Performance
The active noise canceling works well and is almost impossible to hold a conversation when it is engaged–which is useful when trying to keep active noise from a plane, train, or automobile, for example, to a minimum. The Bose QuietComfort 20 headphones are the only other ones on the market able to hold up. Call quality on the Sony earbuds is also exceptional, with people on the other end hearing every detail of outside noise and their voices being crisp and clear on your end. Battery life clocks in at about 6 hours, beating the Apple Airpods by a good hour.

Design
The Sony WF-1000XM3 earbuds are designed to look stylish, unlike the AirPods Pro, and unobtrusive. Even the charging case can fit snugly in your pocket while you’re out and about. They also only weigh 8.5g, meaning they are very comfortable to wear in your ear and won’t be a burden. A large selection of non-slip rubber and foam earbud covers are available in the case so you can experiment to find the right fit for you. The only other headphones able to compete with these earbuds are other Sony models like the Sony WH100XM3, or fine brands like the Etymotic Research HF5, and the Wicked Audio Solus headphones.

Value
A neat feature on the right earbud is a button that lets you hear ambient noise, called Quick Attention mode. While audio quality, in general, is outstanding, it’s not as good as the over-ear headphones equivalent, the WH-1000XM3, and there’s no on-ear sound control. However, there is little else missing from these wireless headphones. It comes with NFC Bluetooth pairing, Google Assistant, a touch controls panel to pause and resume your jams, and the Sony Headphones Connect App even allows you to make EQ changes. Priced at $228.00, though, the Sennheiser Momentum In-Ear is a budget-friendly alternative that boasts impressive features much like Sony.

The only real thing the Sony WF-1000XM3 has going against it is its high price. And at $228.00 it’s understandable why people may turn away or mull over the decision for quite some time. However, those who take the plunge will be more than pleased with what they purchased and confident that Sony is producing the best true wireless earbuds with the WF-10000XM3 Sony.
