Why We Like It – Rii RK100+

The Rii RK100+ Gaming Keyboard is an excellent choice for anyone who wants all the amenities of a sleek RGB keyboard without breaking the bank.

Pros
  • Great for a budget build
  • Excellent build quality
  • Supports a wide range of devices
Cons
  • Lacking RGB options
  • Doesn’t have a mechanical feeling

Performance

The Rii RK100 multiple color wired mechanical keyboard performed really well in both a gaming setting as well as an office setting. Its keys have enough pushback that pressing them and watching the action unfold was wholly responsive—especially in a high action situation like gaming. To prevent slipping during said action moments, there’s grippers on the legs. With how supportive it is of other devices, like IPTV smart TV Mac OS, Raspberry Pi, and Chrome OS, it can be used in other situations, not just as a backlit gaming keyboard.

Rii advertises the RK100+ as a multiple color rainbow LED backlit mechanical feeling multimedia gaming keyboard, but its keys don’t feel mechanical at all. Tapping the keys produces very little sound, or clicking that you’d expect from a mechanical keyboard. Instead, the Rii RK100+ is more of a membrane keyboard than anything.” Though the Rii RK100 still performed well, others who may greatly value having a mechanical feeling multimedia keyboard may find that missing feeling to be a dealbreaker.

Design

The overall quality of the RK100+ is quite surprising, given its $20 price tag. Its somewhat compact design does open it up for smaller desks, even with the number pad; sleek black finish would go well next to a pair of ASTRO Gaming A50 headset It’s about an inch short in length—length is 17-inches—which is done by matching the ends of the keys with the end of the keyboard, rather than have a lip at the edges.

On other keyboards, you’d find the multimedia buttons along the top, but that too has been shaved down and the multimedia keys moved to the Function keys, ultimately shrinking its height from an average six and a half inches to a mere five inches. The vibrant colors on this Rii RK100 Multiple Color Rainbow LED Backlit Large Size USB Wired Gaming Keyboard did perform well and glowed pleasantly as a backlit gaming keyboard. Though as mentioned previously, the Rii RK100+ is designed to be a mechanical feeling multimedia gaming keyboard, but unfortunately, it didn’t actually give off a mechanical-feeling impression while typing on this colorful backlit keyboard. Overall, if you’re looking for a large-sized backlit gaming keyboard and don’t particularly mind how it doesn’t feel like a “true” wired mechanical keyboard, the Rii RK100 still performs nicely and will complement your desk area with its pleasant color scheme.

Value

Given how well the Rii RK100+ is built—especially in the design department—the value of this gaming keyboard is unquestionable. You’re getting nearly everything you would expect in an RGB keyboard from an established brand, but for only $20? That’s almost unheard of. It performs well in intense situations, like gaming, the feedback on the keys is top-notch, and the RGB is appealing to the eyes, though lacking any lighting manipulation.

Rii RK100+ is a great budget item, opening the option to save money for more expensive centerpieces, like the Vertagear SLine 4000 gaming chair, and the Oculus Quest.”

Rii RK100+ Wrap Up

The Rii RK100+ is a great backlit keyboard that fits well in any gaming space, or office—even more so paired with the Razer DeathAdder Elite Gaming Mouse. While its design is supposedly mechanical, it feels more like a membrane keyboard, but still provides plenty of feedback when in use and has excellent build quality. It’s lacking any real RGB options, other than a solid rainbow or breathing rainbow, but does offer several states of brightness. It’s compatible with multiple types of devices, like your smart TV Mac OS, Chrome OS, etc. so you can use it in different scenarios. And to top it all off, it has a price tag to die for. Rii also sells other great keyboards for different situations, so be sure to check out their products online. Rii has online shops for customers based in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, and many more countries.
