If you’re aiming for the best vacuum for elderly individuals, the best bagged vacuum is arguably the Oreck Commercial Upright XL2100. Why? For starters: it’s lightweight and has a long power cord length. On top of that, it has a handle that makes it easy to lift when traveling to the next floor to clean.

Why We Like It – Oreck Commercial Upright XL2100

Lightweight, efficient, and intelligently designed, the Oreck Commercial Upright XL2100 has good suction, assisted by a brush roll designed to dig deep into carpets to lift dirt and debris from your carpets.

Power, Speed & Efficiency

Oreck Commercial Upright Vacuum Cleaners aren’t powerhouses in terms of suction power, but they’re efficient, just like the Kenmore upright vacuum. The brush roll uses double helix bristles to dig deep into carpets, reducing the number of times you pass through any given area. Plus, having a wide cleaning path also makes cleaning faster, as you’ll find in the Sanitaire commercial vacuum. Moreover, the Oreck Commercial XL2100RHS isn’t shy with surfaces; it transfers its power and efficiency across low and high pile carpets, and bare flooring. While expensive, the Dyson Cyclone V10 Motorhead Cordless Vacuum is far more powerful.

Powerful doesn’t always mean convenient, however. A backpack vacuum can be powerful and very easy to use since you carry it around with you. Discover more in our Koblenz vacuum review, and see if this one is better for you.

Bin Capacity, Maintenance & Durability

Instead of a canister, Oreck XL Commercial Upright Vacuums use top-fill vacuum bags, just like the  Oreck Magnesium and the Hoover Commercial C2401 do. While bags lost their prevalence, it does reduce overall maintenance. If you’re elderly, you’ll be happy to hear the Oreck Commercial Upright XL2100 only weighs 9 lbs. It even has a Helping Hand handle for easy carrying, plus the power cord is 35-feet long, lessening the chance of unplugging. Lastly, it’s nice the vacuum head is surrounded by a non-marring bumper to prevent damage to walls.

Value

As far as pricing goes, the Oreck Commercial Upright XL2100 is perfectly priced. Its price per performance is exactly what we’d expect. It’s affordable, simple, lightweight, and efficient. For an elderly individual, all the points have been nailed. However, it has to be noted you’ll be buying vacuum bags frequently. The vacuum is affordable, sure—but over time the cost of bags adds up. For something lightweight and bagless, the Shark Rocket HV301 or the Shark Navigator Freestyle Upright vacuum is perfect. But if you don’t want to vacuum at all, an iRobot Roomba 675 might be of interest.

Oreck Commercial Upright XL2100 Wrap Up

The Oreck Commercial Upright XL2100 makes up for its average power by being efficient and lightweight. The ability to dig deeply into your carpet shouldn’t be ignored. Its non-marring bumpers mean you never have to worry about damage to your walls. We only wish it didn’t rely on vacuum bags; otherwise, it’s a done deal for an elderly individual.
