If you’re strapped for cash, but still need a reliable leading lightweight vacuum, the best vacuum for elderly individuals is arguably the Dirt Devil SD20000Red. First off, its bagless design means you never need a vacuum bag ever again. And with a rinsable filter, it will always run at peak performance, so long as it’s tended to. If you want cleaner options, see our best vacuum cleaner list.

Why We Like It – Dirt Devil SD20000Red

The ideal companion for small homes, the Dirt Devil SD20000Red is a lightweight stick vacuum that’s still powerful despite its size, and can easily transfer that power to handheld mode.

Pros
  • Lightweight design
  • On-board crevice tool
  • Bagless w/ rinsable filter
Cons
  • Suction power is average, at best

Power, Speed & Efficiency

The Dirt Devil Simplistik puts its name to good use by being one of the most straightforward stick vacuums around. Suction power rating is around 137W, which isn’t great; in fact, it’s average. But, you’ll definitely get more power out of the Dyson Cyclone V10 absolute lightweight cordless stick vacuum cleaner. The Simplistik cleaning path is smaller than your average vac, around 10 inches, but larger than the iRobot Roomba 675, and a bit more efficient too. Its power and efficiency fit far better in a smaller setting as opposed to a large house.

Bin Capacity

Unlike the Oreck Commercial Upright XL2100, the Dirt Devil SD20000Red took a much different approach to collect debris. Rather than use vacuum bags, the SD20000Red has a bagless design. It has a bin capacity of 0.35 liters, which is a bit on the smaller side, but stick vacuums tend to be smaller. For example, the Shark Rocket HV301 has a capacity of 0.39 liters. Whereas, the Dibea F20 Max has a bin capacity of 17 oz. You can read more in our review.

Maintenance & Durability

The Dirt Devil Simpli Stik Lightweight Hand Vacuum is largely made of plastic. Its durability is average, at best, but does reduce its overall weight to just 3.74 lbs. To an elderly individual, that’s invaluable. Also, maintenance is relatively low; wash the rinsable filter every now and then and you’re good to go.

Value

Despite being painfully average, is the Dirt Devil SD20000Red still worth grabbing? It’s going to largely depend on three factors: 1) Are you elderly? 2) Is your living space on the smaller side? 3) Are you on a budget? If you say “yes” to one or more, then you have plenty of reason to pick one up. After all, it’s just under $32 and you never have to buy vacuum bags ever again.

Dirt Devil SD20000Red Wrap Up

The Dirt Devil SD20000Red might be average overall, but when placed in a smaller environment its averageness is hardly noticeable. When your strength is limited, it pays to have a solid vacuum that can still clean your house, but isn’t hard to carry or maneuver. Most importantly, it’s cheap and you’ll never spend a dime on vacuum bags.
