If you’re in the market for air conditioners but don’t want to shell out nearly $1,000 for the best LG air conditioner, the LG LT1037HNR could be a great option for you! While it’s not portable (wall-install only) and cools 50 sq. ft. less than LG’s top model, it nonetheless offers 450 sq. ft. of both heating & cooling at a far lower price tag of $669! If you don’t know how a wall-mounted air conditioner works, our info article can help with that. But for now, read on to find out why we think it’s a top-tier window unit, or how it compares to other top-rated ACs on the market today.

Why We Like It – LG LT1037 HNR

The LG LT1037 HNR is a through-the-wall air conditioner capable of providing both cooling & heating for areas of approx. 450 sq. ft. If you’d prefer a Wi-Fi controllable unit, consider the LG LW1017ERSM model that also cools a space of 450 sq ft, and operates at a fairly quiet 52 dB. The LG LT1037 HNR  operates a maximum indoor noise level of 56 dB and runs on a 230-volt electrical outlet.

Pros
  • Cools & Heats 450 Sq. Ft.
  • Universal 26” Fit For Easy Wall Air Conditioner Installation
  • Comes With A Remote Control
Cons
  • Won’t Operate On A Standard 115V Outlet
  • Not For Window Installation (consider the LW8016 HR instead)

Performance

The LG LT1037 HNR has a British Thermal Unit (BTU) rating of 10,000 (although there is also an 11,200 BTU version available). Unlike the Friedrich Wallmaster, this provides it with enough power to cool an area of up to 450 sq. ft. This model also has a heating function, which is rated for 11,200 BTU and is designed to heat areas from 450-550 sq. ft. If you need to control the temperature over a larger area, consider an air conditioner with a higher BTU rating like the LG LW1816ER.

Energy Efficiency

Unlike many other units, this air conditioner won’t work with a standard 115v electrical outlet; instead, it requires a 230-volt/20-amp outlet. Still, this model is fairly energy-efficient, with an estimated annual operating cost of only $92 (annual operating costs for similarly designed models range from $73 to $138). This earns it an Energy Efficiency Ratio of 9.8, and brings the average daily cost of operation to about $0.25, though your actual operating costs will vary depending on which settings you use & how frequently you use the device.

Filtration

By design, this air conditioner is both inside and outdoors: the back of the device hangs outside of the building, the middle is held in place by passing through the 26″ wall sleeve, and the front of the device is located inside of the room, where only the buttons, vents, & LED display are visible. Located inside the front of this device is the air filter, which can easily be accessed by opening the front of the AC, making cleaning the filter a simple task.

Durability

Of course, you shouldn’t be unnecessarily rough with your AC, but this LG device is built well enough so there’s no need to worry about damaging it during the installation process. If you prefer an air conditioner that you can also move around freely, check out the LG LP1419IVSM model. The front of the LG LT1037 HNR unit (viewable from the inside) is made of sturdy plastic with a small LCD display in the upper right-hand corner. This plastic continues along the outside of the device until you get to the back, which is colored similarly but is made of metal instead.

Value

At $669.99, the LT1037HNR is priced slightly higher than similar models offered on Amazon, but it’s not unreasonable (for a cheaper model, check out our LG LW1017ERSM review!). LG offers a one-year warranty on this air conditioner, but there are also protection plans available. You can buy 3 years of protection (through Asurion) for $65.99, or 4 years for $85.99. The device receives mostly positive reviews overall, earning 3.9 out of 5-stars based on 32 Amazon ratings. A common complaint is product damage from the shipping process.

LG LT1037 HNR Wrap Up

The LG LT1037 is a good through-the-wall AC unit. With an operating level of only 56 dB, the ability to heat/cool rooms, and a low yearly operating cost, we think this is a unit worth investing in. Unfortunately, your experience will be largely dependent on the condition of the unit when it shows up because damage during shipping appears to be a consistent issue.
