Friedrich Wallmaster Wall Air Conditioners not only cool a room of up to 400 square feet but can also heat a room of up to 400 square feet in the winter. It’s one of the reasons we’ve chosen it as the best through-the-wall air conditioner. That, and the UL Listing too. It’s never a bad thing to have quality air circulating. Read on to find out more about its features, and also compare it with some of the best A/Cs on the market today.

Why We Like It – Friedrich Wallmaster

The Friedrich Wallmaster is an ideal in-wall air conditioning unit if you’re looking to cool a room of up to 400 square feet. The 9.6 EER is also among the lowest we’ve seen and should be able to save you a ton of money in the long run. And although the unit is very heavy it will also be very stable and have commercial-grade durability. For a unit that will cool a 700-square-foot room, you’ll want to read our Frigidaire portable air conditioner 700 sq. ft. review.

Pros
  • Can Also Heat a Room
  • UL Listed
  • Comes With a Remote Control
Cons
  • Heavy
  • No Smart Options

Performance

Unlike the EdgeStar 14,000 BTU dual-hose portable air conditioner with heater, the Friedrich Wallmaster boasts an impressive cooling power of 10,000 BTU. Translated, it can cool a room of up to 400 sq ft. if you’d like more, or even less, check out the Keystone Air Conditioner for its variance of BTU models. As an added bonus, the Friedrich Wallmaster can also provide electric heat to a room of the same size which will be great for those cold winter months.

Energy Efficiency

The Friedrich Wallmaster comes with an EER rating of 9.6, which is one of the lowest we’ve seen. This grants it the Energy Star certification in-wall air conditioners should strive towards. This unit’s cousin, the Friedrich Wall Air Conditioner, is another Energy Star certified model if you want to check it out. The Friedrich Wallmaster is also UL Listed so you know it won’t give you any problems with indoor air quality too!

Filtration

Like all the in-wall air conditioners in its class, the Friedrich Air Conditioner contains a washable, antimicrobial filter that should be washed at least once a month. It’s cumbersome but a necessary inconvenience if you want the freshest air possible. And considering all air conditioners require you to do this we aren’t holding it against the Friedrich.

Durability

At 104 pounds, the Friedrich Wallmaster is the heaviest in-wall air conditioner we’ve seen. It’s even heavier than the LG LT1037 HNR, which is 78 pounds. While this may cut down on rattling noise because of the stability, it seems unacceptable that units with higher BTUs can be 50 pounds less than this. Consider the KSTAT10-2C Keystone Air Conditioner if you want something more lightweight. And if you only need a unit that will cool a tight-spaced living room or bedroom, we recommend you get the Frigidaire 5000 BTU Air Conditioner.

Value

The Friedrich Wallmaster isn’t a smart, WiFi-enabled device, but neither are the majority of its competitors so we won’t be holding that against it. The unit fits competitors’ 2-inch wall sleeves, including Fedders A and B, which makes it perfect for replacing an older model. It also comes with a remote control so you can control it from afar. Great for when you can’t unstick from the couch during a humid summer day.

Friedrich Wallmaster Wrap Up

The Friedrich Wallmaster series does have some kinks, but it’s, overall, a great unit that we’re sure you’ll appreciate if you do decide to buy one. It is heavy, so make sure you’re getting some friends to help you lift and install the thing. The lack of smart options shouldn’t really be too much of an issue considering you can control it with the included remote too.
