Performance
What we liked about the Canon M50 was the broad stroke of image quality. The 24.1 megapixel APS C CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 8 image processor capture such a wide dynamic range, color, and details very clearly—even in low light. This proves to be even stronger than the Nikon W300. RAW files in particular are lossless, thanks to Canon’s new C RAW format. What we loved was its Dual Pixel autofocus system. Its Dual Pixel CMOS AF can focus on a wide variety of areas within the image. Once you’ve chosen your subject, all you have to do is tap on them and the camera does the work.

Normally, the Canon EOS M50 shoots in 4K UHD at 24fps. That’s great! For any vlogger, that’s more than enough. But it also comes with slow-motion, a necessary tool to have as a vlogger. It’s limited to 1080p, unfortunately.
Design
We aren’t surprised the M50 is one beautiful Canon camera. It sports a glossy black finish with textured areas for a better grip, including a small hump to hold. There is a white variant that looks particularly stunning, albeit unusual. Accessing the buttons such as video mode, and so on, is easy, though the buttons are a little small. The Vari Angle touch screen isn’t fixed, and is even capable of flipping towards you if you’re vlogging so you can see your face, just like the Canon Vixia HF R700 Camcorder.
Value
When considering the value of the Canon EOS M50—its performance, Dual Pixel AF, and Wi-Fi capabilities—the M50 is hard to pass on. Comparing it with a Fujifilm X-T30 or even Canon’s EOS Rebel T6i, the Canon EOS M50 has a much better for-pound value compared to those mirrorless cameras. Canon EOS M50 Wrap Up
Even though slow-motion is limited to 1080p, you typically wouldn’t use it while filming; that’s a post-video effect you add in editing. And sure, the battery is okay, but you’ll be shooting videos far more often. With 4K video, a movable LCD viewfinder, and a sophisticated autofocus system, we can look past that.
