The GoPro Hero4 Silver Camera is a great camera for veterans and beginners alike, and the much more in-depth Night Photo and Low-Light Modes are a welcome addition. There are some design mis-steps, and it’s clear GoPro went the video capture and image route. Check out our best vlogging camera list to see how the silver reviews against other vlogging cameras!

Why We Like It – GoPro Hero4 Silver Camera

The GoPro Hero4 Silver Camera is a fantastic little camera that features some firsts, like an LCD touch screen, and some marked improvements, like a fantastic low light mode and Night Photo mode, for the GoPro series of cameras. It’s easily one of the best action cameras out there, but its high-quality video capture can be used to film normal, everyday events too, not just someone biking down a steep hill.

Performance

While the Hero4 Silver GoPro does offer excellent image quality and video quality it lacks any in-camera image stabilization, which is odd. Try the Panasonic Lumix LX10 if you want some in-camera tools, or if your vlogging doesn’t really require action cams. The Hero4 Silver Edition also offers a fantastic low light mode that you can set-up to kick in automatically which is great for when you’re biking through sunny and shaded areas, for example. Even Night Photo mode is fantastic for both beginners and veterans to shoot quality video or images at night.

Design

With the new GoPro Camera you’ll have to manually go into the settings to turn on your wi fi. This means that the wi-fi won’t automatically turn on and drain your battery, which is nice, but GoPro still has some work to do on extending the battery life. And while the Hero4 Black Edition video camera may have the edge when it comes to frame rate, the Hero4 Silver is the first to have a touch screen. Check out the Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II for a camera with a fantastic touch screen or, like before, your vlogging doesn’t really require action cameras.

Value

The GoPro App is free to download and aids quite well in trying to find that ultra-cool moment you caught. There is no charger included in the box, just a mini USB cable for use with a computer or wall adapter. The Hero4 Silver Edition can shoot at 30 frames per second and offers professional-level video editing capabilities. Unfortunately, though, it still needs some waterproof housing. If you’re on a budget (although the Hero4 Silver isn’t that expensive) consider trying the Canon Vixia HF R700 Camcorder.

GoPro Hero4 Silver Camera Wrap Up

The GoPro Hero4 Silver is a great camera that takes what you liked from previous GoPro Cameras, like the Hero3 Silver and the Hero4 Black, and adds some unique and fancy new features which makes the Hero4 Silver the coolest action camera available right now. It’s relatively inexpensive too so you can try it out without doing too much damage to your bank account.
