The DJI Osmo Pocket is a cleverly designed little vlogging device that has the power of a full-sized camera but can fit into the pocket of your jeans. The mimo app connects to your Osmo Pocket quickly and easily, allowing you to start vlogging instantly. Falling in love with it is easy, and naming it your best vlogging camera wouldn’t be too much of a stretch. To keep your camera steady on the go, take a look at the Manfrotto 055CX3 for a well-performing tripod.

Why We Like It – DJI Osmo Pocket

With speedy connection to the DJI Mimo app, a versatile and usable control wheel, and its plethora of other features, it’s hard to believe that the DJI Osmo Pocket is as small as it is. But like the old saying goes, “good things come in small packages.” In the case of the DJI Osmo Pocket, good image quality comes in small packages.

Pros
  • Video Footage is in 4K and 60FPS
  • Various Shooting Modes
  • Easy to Stay Connected to the Camera
Cons
  • Can be a bit overwhelming for newcomers
  • Still very much a Gen 1 Product
  • Need to use Pro Mode for the best image quality

Performance

The DJI mimo app is fast when connecting to your device and connection rarely broke between the camera and the DJI mimo app. Staying connected to the camera is easy whether tethered via Bluetooth or via the wireless module. The DJI Osmo offers smooth video and high transfer rates, proving gimbal image stabilization is superior. Video footage is in 4K, like the Panasonic Lumix LX10, and 60fps. It offers various shooting modes such as Time and Motion Lapse, Slow Motion, Face Tracking, and story mode. Shooting video at a professional level made easy and ready for upload onto YouTube. Design

The control wheel gives you the best options when trying to navigate the features of the DJI Osmo Pocket. Electing the control wheel gives you the best pan and tilt option. The control wheel also includes two extra buttons for re-centering the camera and for flipping the camera 180 degrees. Further, you can stick the Osmo Pocket directly where it says it should be placed. It won’t compete with anything else in there, like the DJI Osmo Mobile 2 does. If you need a camera for wide-angle images, then you need to read our FujiFilm Finepix S8600 review.

Value

Despite its clever design, the Osmo Pocket is still a gen 1 product in certain regards. There’s no tripod attachment at the bottom of the gimbal handle and the bottom has a single USB-C port. Not even the Wireless Module accessory for time lapses fixes this issue. Further, you are required to use pro mode to get the full experience of image quality it has to offer. If you’re looking for a great vlogging camera for beginners, then, try the Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II. Priced at $370.00, the Osmo Pocket is on par with its competitors. The quantity of features it provides though, like image stabilization, multiple shooting modes, and Bluetooth via the wireless module, despite the Osmo Pocket’s small size is still remarkable. Shooting video with this small device may take some getting used to, but you’ll appreciate how lightweight it is and easy to use with the control wheel. If you’re even more curious about the DJI Osmo Pocket, DJI Mimo app, or Shield warranty option that doubles the standard Osmo warranty, beyond this review DJI has more information and specs on its website. You can also check out other quality products DJI makes, like the DJI Osmo Mobile line. The Canon Vixia HFR700 Camcorder is an affordable alternative if you need to start your vlogging career on a budget.

DJI Osmo Pocket Wrap Up

For such a small device, the Osmo Pocket produces outstanding video quality. This is because it keeps up with higher-end smartphones’ camera sensors. It’s even a tad larger. The multitude of features can be a little bit overwhelming to newcomers, especially since you need to go into pro mode to access them, but it shouldn’t be anything a little tinkering around with the device can’t fix. DJI went out of its way to provide the Osmo Pocket with multiple shooting modes with great video quality to help customize your shooting in different situations, like slow motion, story mode, pro mode, etc. Once you get the hang of navigating through its multiple features, you’ll be capturing fantastic video footage and encountering great image quality with this small but mighty camera.
