Performance
Starting off this Mini Projector Vamvo L4200 review with native resolution, it outputs in 1280×720—720p, in other words—which is significantly higher than most of the projectors on our list, and still supports 1080p. The majority project natively at around 480p. Picture quality is surprisingly good for such a small projector. Contrast ratio is 2000:1 with a 3800 lux brightness rating. It’s a good combination. Although, if you don’t mind shelling out another $100 for a little better quality, you’ll want to check out the OKCOO native 1080p video projector.
However, its quality does falter the bigger you increase the screen size. It can go up to 200-inches—twice the size of the Dr. J Professional HI-04 1080p—but if you’re too close, you’ll notice pixels. To reduce this issue, use a projector screen. Sound quality is actually good for once, unlike the Vankyo Leisure 3 Mini Projector, though not by much. It’s less tinny and notes sound more full than its competitors. Although, the same can’t be said for some of the top-rated Sony projectors.
Design
All that performance is packed into a rather small plastic chassis, with dimensions of 10 x 6.5 x 3 inch. It’s a bit cheap around the edges, but some cuts were clearly made somewhere to keep costs low. Take care of the project and that won’t ever become an issue; it comes with a carrying case, after all. The playback buttons are placed along the top, with adjustments underneath and around the lamplight. In the back is a bevy of ports to use. You’ll find HDMI, USB 2.0, VGA, SD card, AV, and Audio Out. Why settle with movies when you could hook up a console or a Fire TV stick?
Value
Given the number of ports in the back, the quality of the image, and the size, everything the Vamvo L4200 Portable Video Projector has to offer really gives it a great value. This is especially true if you’re short on cash and want to entertain children. With its large screen size, you can create a makeshift movie theater in minutes and let the portable projector do the rest of the work. It’s certainly a better deal over the Anker Nebula Capsule 2 and the Anker Nebula Mars 2.
Vamvo L4200 Portable Video Projector Review Wrap Up
Despite losing video quality, starting at around 150-inches, this was never an issue from a distance. Projecting a screen size of 200-inches, you’ll want to be a good distance away, anyways. Having 720p native resolution was good, but take advantage of its 1080p support. And with decent dual speakers, you won’t have to immediately purchase a new set.
