Performance
Whether you’re watching a movie or playing video games, the Samsung QN75Q80TAFXZC is packed with all kinds of technology to bring every scene into the modern age. Details are crisp, vivid, and immersive. How can it not? Its Quantum Dot technology provides 100% color volume, a billion shades of color all working in tandem, and with Quantum HDR adjusting contrast and colors to appear realistic, accurate, and dynamic. That is in addition to Direct Full Array 8X local dimming, which enrichens the darker shades without sacrificing details. Then there’s Adaptive Picture technology, further adjusting the TV’s brightness based on surrounding light sources so you always get the best picture.

Design
With a titan black brushed finish, the Samsung 4K TV QN75Q80TAFXZC has a solid build. It might wobble slightly due to its small stand, but otherwise balances just fine on any stand. You can improve upon its object tracking sound through its digital audio out options, in addition to Dolby Digital. However, it lacks Active Voice audio technology like its bigger models. Thumbing through the menu will reveal modes such as: Wi Fi, Game Mode, and Ambient Mode; a nice addition to reduce flickering and have your TV blend with its environment, respectively.

Value
Unfortunately, the 49-inch model has many features downgraded. Refresh rate, for example, is 60Hz as opposed to 120Hz on the Sony XBR-A1E OLED. Viewing angles are much better than its bigger Samsung Q80T brothers, but starts to slightly dim in quality around 50 degrees. Bigger models make use of Ultra Viewing Angle at the cost of contrast performance.
Despite its cutbacks, its great picture quality powered by its Quantum Processor 4K is a sight to behold. Quantum Dot technology alone provides such deep and rich colors that provide an impressive viewing experience regardless if you’re playing video games or watching a movie. And at $900, it’s priced perfectly and more up-to-date than Samsung Q7F. On a budget, we recommend the TCL 55R617.

Providing HDR, excellent contrast ratio and 4K for $900 is a steal in our book. At 49-inches, it’s a solid choice for gaming and movies. Even DVDs will get a boost in quality through smart AI upscaling. Still, viewing at a sharp angle isn’t ideal. And a few features are downgraded with the 49-inch model. Through that sacrifice, the Samsung QN75Q80TAFXZC is a perfect blend of performance and budget.
