Heading to a windy location? Need a travel companion that doesn’t weigh a lot, nor take up too much space in your backpack? The Samsonite Windguard Auto Open Umbrella may just be one of the best umbrellas for the job, thanks to its automatic open and close button, small folded length, and performance against weather and winds.

Why We Like It – Samsonite Windguard Auto Open Umbrella

A great companion to have when traveling, thanks to its low weight, small folding length, and performance against tough winds.

Pros
  • Good for traveling
  • Automatic open close function
  • Free shipping
Cons
  • Occasionally flipped inside out
  • Lacks UV protection

Performance

The Samsonite Windguard Auto Open Umbrella did its name proud by withstanding some fairly strong winds. It did this by introducing a teflon coated wind guard Samsonite windguard canopy, which helped deter the wind. However, if you don’t handle the umbrella correctly, it does tend to flip inside-out more often than not.

More importantly, it lacks UV protection. For that, you should look to the Sharpty Inverted Umbrella. This comes at the cost of protection against the wind; the Sharpty Inverted Umbrella is good against average wind, not high winds.

Design

We really liked how the Samsonite Windguard Auto Open Umbrella was ready for the road. Its compact folded length only measured 12-inches! This made it really easy to toss slide it into the printed luggage cover it comes with, into a backpack, without costing a ton of real estate. And it only weighs 0.82 lbs!

Earlier we mentioned its inability to handle high speed winds when not handled correctly. This was made easier by way of its canopy Samsonite branded handle. It’s really comfortable, and holding onto it during strong winds rarely fatigued our fingers and hands. At the same time, its automatic open and close function was a godsend. To protect your car during the hot summer, you need a car umbrella. Check out a good example in our RELIANCER car tent hot summer car umbrella review.

Value

When we considered the performance and the design of the Samsonite Windguard Auto Open Close Umbrella, and all its minor details—we felt it had good value. Is $25 the right price for it? Definitely, with free shipping and friendly customer service getting bonus points from us. For someone who likes to travel, and doesn’t want a bulky umbrella, this is a solid choice. Still, we can’t help but offer a better alternative, specifically the Repel Windproof Umbrella, for its high-performing aspects against high speed winds. The EEZ-Y Windproof Travel Umbrella makes an equally great argument.

Samsonite Windguard Auto Open Umbrella Wrap Up

Despite Samsonite Windguard Auto Open Umbrella flipping every now and then, keeping it in an ideal position wasn’t hard. Its automatic open and closing function is great for elderly hands; free shipping is always nice, too. We looked past UV protection considering you rarely use umbrellas in the sun. It’s still a good companion for traveling and adequate shading.
