Make sure you get to the end of this Homelabs portable air conditioner review to see how much better it is than window air conditioners, and why it occupies the top spot on our best air conditioners list.

Why We Like It – Homelabs 14 000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner

Anyone in constant need of some cold air in their room will love the 14000 BTU portable air conditioner from Homelabs, and come to appreciate the energy efficiency that’s built into it compared to other AC units. As you’ll see in this air conditioner review, the 1400 BTU portable air conditioner unit comes with a remote, 4 cooling modes, and a single heat exhaust hose making it a lot more energy-efficient. In terms of energy efficiency, this unit is similar to its predecessor, the hOmeLabs 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner which has a built-in sleep functionality that helps save electricity bills.

Pros
  • Energy efficient
    • Includes wheels for portability
  • Full-feature remote control
Cons
  • Single Hose

Performance

At a 14000 BTU rating, the Homelands portable air conditioner is better than the SereneLife 12,000 BTU portable air conditioner, and is perfect for cooling a room that’s as large as 450 to 600 square feet. It comes with an automatic vertical swing function that’s used to distribute air evenly across the room, and is also quite easy to install. The AC unit can also be used to dehumidify large rooms, as it is capable of removing up to 100 pints of moisture a day when set to its maximum setting. For those who want to maintain a certain humidity level in their house, the portable air conditioner allows for relative humidity (RH) setting of between 35% and 85%. The trapping of airborne particles is done through a washable filter, though the lack of a water collection basin will force you to rely on its continuous drainage port to empty the accumulated water particles. Also, as opposed to the dual hose heat exhaust system, the manufacturers chose a single-hose setup, where hot air is sent out through an 8-inch outlet.

Design

Unlike the Frigidaire FFRA0511R1E 5,000 BTU A/C unit, the Homelabs Portable Air Conditioner comes with wheels, meaning you’ll be able to roll it into any room you’d like to have it in. It measures about 17.9 by 15 by 30.7 inches, and at a weight of 72.3 pounds, you’d need a second person to help you move around with it if the wheels were not included. Unlike most air conditioners, the Homelabs portable AC comes with a remote control that you can use to set just about anything, saving you from the need of having to wake up and manually input settings. If you’d like that kind of comfort, you will also be interested in the remote-controlled Honeywell 525-729CFM Evaporative Cooler for convenience, instead of manually inputting settings. For those few times that you’ll have to, you’ll be impressed with the touch control panel on this HomeLabs, alongside an LED display screen that shows you its current status. The portable AC is only available in white, and we really can’t complain because this is the color that most people’s decor will go with.

Value

As opposed to having to install a whole-home air conditioner unit, the Homelabs portable air conditioner serves as a viable alternative that’s a lot less expensive, and can be reeled into the room where you need air conditioning most. On top of that, it also has a very low noise level, and with an energy efficiency ratio of 9.8, the 14000 BTU portable air conditioner won’t drive your electricity bill through the roof. The low energy consumption rate is also a result of only using a single hose, unlike other portable AC units that’ll probably have two or more. Also, compared to the LG LW8016ER 8,000 BTU and the LG 10,000 BTU air conditioner, which has only 3 modes, the Homelabs AC unit has 4, and is also far more capable of cooling a larger room.

Homelabs 14 000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner Wrap Up

Despite coming with only one exhaust hose, the Homelabs portable air conditioner is far more efficient than most portable air conditioners in terms of power consumption, since it doesn’t come with a dual drain hose set up like the Whynter Arc Dual hose portable conditioner does.
