Frigidaire 12000 BTU Window Air Conditioners are not only medium-sized room cleaning machines, but are also not going to get you sick by circulating air garbage air. The UL-lIsting makes sure of that. It’s a bit cumbersome to clean, but since it’s one of the best through-the-wall air conditioners, we’re not going to deduct too many points for that. Read on to find more about its features, and compare it with the best air conditioners on the market today.

Why We Like It – Frigidaire 12000 BTU

The Frigidaire 12000 BTU is a powerful entry into the Frigidaire series of air conditioners. It boasts 12,000 BTUs which is enough to cool most medium-sized rooms and, as a bonus, can also remove 3.3 pints of moisture per hour. Perfect for those hot and humid summer days. If you only need a unit to cool a smaller space, consider getting the Frigidaire 10000 BTU Air Conditioner that has a lesser cooling capacity.

Pros
  • Can Cool Medium Sized Rooms With Great Efficiency
  • UL Listed and AHAM Certified
  • Includes Remote Control
Cons
  • Cleaning the Filter Can Be Cumbersome
  • Heavy

Performance

As you may have guessed, the Frigidaire FFTA1233S1 has a cooling power of 12,000 BTUs. This is enough to cool a room of approximately 550 square feet. If you prefer options for cooling performance, because you have a smaller or larger room, consider the Keystone Air Conditioner. As a bonus, the FFTA1233S1 also removes 3.3 pints of moisture in the air per hour. An even better model is the Frigidaire Air Conditioner 18000 BTU which removes 5.5 pints of moisture per hour from the air.

Energy Efficiency

With an Energy Efficiency Rating (EER) of 10.5, it should come as no surprise that the 1233S1 is Energy Star Certified. You can also check out the Friedrich Wall Air Conditioner for another example of an air conditioner with Energy Star Certification. Other certifications the FFTA1233S1 carries are AHAM and UL. A UL-Listed product means the unit will not negatively affect the air in your home and an AHAM certification is your guarantee that all specifications Frigidaire lists are accurate.

Filtration

Like most in-wall air containers it is recommended that you clean the air filter on the FFTA1233S1 at least once a month. Cleaning isn’t all that difficult, as all you need is a gentle wash with liquid soap, but it can become cumbersome. But all in-wall air conditioners in its class, such as the KSTAT10-2C Keystone Air Conditioner, suffer from this affliction so it wouldn’t be very fair to single only this unit out.

Durability

The Frigidaire FFTA1233S1 carries a noise level of about 56dB which is slightly less than a normal conversation at 60dB. While this may still be just slightly loud, it’s less than most other in-wall air conditioners so we’re counting it as a plus. The power cord extends from the left, so be sure to consider that when setting it up. At 76 pounds it’s a little too heavy for a single-person window-mounted endeavor, so be sure you’re taking precautions and asking for help.

Value

The included remote control allows settings to be changed from across the room. On a hot, humid day, this will be your favorite feature. The unit also features three control types: sleep mode, fan mode, energy saver mode, and auto mode. Sleep mode in particular allows for the unit to assess room temperature so you remain comfortable in bed without having it cost you in the long run.

Frigidaire 12000 BTU Wrap Up

One of my personal, favorite things about the FFTA1233S1 is the AHAM certification. It’s always a load off the mind knowing when a company’s listed specifications are accurate and not an overestimation of a specification based on 100% total optimum conditions. And on a humid summer day, the remote control is always welcome.
