Performance
For a mini drone, the DJI Mavic Mini Drone is tough against winds. It makes use of a 3-axis gyro system; a necessary trait for steady photography. The Potensic T25 has it beat with its 9-axis gyro, but Mavic gets the job done. Video quality is excellent at 2.7K, with images being 12MP.
Flight time is really good when compared to SNAPTAIN S5C and Holy Stone HS700D. The SNAPTAIN is 20 minutes flat, while the Holy Stone is 20 to 30 minutes on an unreliable battery. The Mavic Mini, on the other hand, flies as long as 30 minutes. The best part is how far the DJI Mavic Mini Drone will go—up to 5km! That’s just a bit over three miles. However, it does lack collision avoidance sensors.
Design
The Mavic Mini DJI Drone is small enough to fit in your pocket, not weighing much more than smartphones. This is because the arms fold against its body. Its small weight class exempts it from certain regulations in some countries (but double-check your area).
Included in the package are its charging hub and remote controller. What’s nice about the remote controller is clips extend from the bottom and fasten to your smartphone. In doing so, you can view your flight via phone, and even use the DJI Fly app to take a flying lesson. Value
Compared to more expensive drones, the Mini is packing a lot of value. Before we wrote this DJI Mavic Mini review, we considered one of its cousins, the DJI Mavic Air—a step up from it—to gauge its value. The Air has a 4K camera, 12MP camera, flies as far as 10km, a handful of photography modes, and a flight time of 20 minutes. Clearly, the Air is an upgrade. But for $724? For a photographer, perhaps.
