The VTech Digital Kids Camera is a wonderfully designed camera in the hands of three to nine year olds that fits their tiny hands perfectly. The image-based navigation allows them to easily go to the setting or mode they need, and the image quality is just perfect for the best digital camera for kids and perhaps the best digital camera.
Why We Like It – VTech Children’s Digital Camera
The VTech Children’s Digital Camera is a fantastic introductory camera if you want to get your child into photography or if you think they would have a knack for it. It’s inexpensive, so you won’t be losing much if they toss it aside after a couple of months, and its durability is a god-send considering, as kids, they’ll probably drop it more often than not.

Image Quality
The VTech Kidizoom Children’s Digital Camera features a 5.0 front megapixel camera and a .3 megapixel resolution on the rear camera. It’s a kids camera, so this type of resolution should be more than enough, but check out the Fujifilm XP80 if you’d like more. However, be aware that the resolution will drop to 2.0 megapixels if you’re using a filter. Still good for a kids camera, but unfortunate.
Ease of Use
One of the best things about the VTech Children’s Camera is that it’s ergonomically designed. The camera and the shutter switch buttons are right where the index finger will naturally be placed. As it is also a children’s camera, the navigation is simple and image-based so you’re child won’t have to scroll through a bunch of words they probably won’t understand. However, if you want your child to jump in early with photography, try the Nikon D3500 Digital SLR Camera.
Battery Life
The outside grips of the VTech Children’s Digital Camera double as battery compartments, and each take two AA batteries for a total of four altogether. As such, we can’t tell you how long the batteries will last as that is entirely dependent on the brand of battery, how often the camera is in use, etc. If you prefer the more modern, USB cable rechargeable battery, check out the Fujifilm Instax Square SQ10.
Durability
The camera is encased in shockproof rubber and has two chunky grips on either side for easy handling and fall-protection. As I mentioned previously, the design is very ergonomic. The camera manages to be both tough and chunky, but still suitable for the tiny hands of a three to nine year old.
Value
The binocular-style eyepieces are well-suited for children to capture images quickly. The camera also features a bunch of fun and creative effects as well as games to keep them entertained when not using the camera. There’s also a 4x optical zoom and even a MicroSD Card slot for expandable storage. This is a pretty feature rich camera for only $48.00, and can be a pretty cool way to get your kids outside more.

Kids are getting more tech-savvy these days so it’s nice VTech included a MicroSD Card slot for more storage. I’ve always believed in talking up to kids, not down. It’s a shame resolution drops when using effects, but for a camera as inexpensive and as feature-rich as this one, there was bound to be a trade-off somewhere.
