Your idea of the best air purifier tackles mold, which is usually handled by UV-C light. It just so happens the SilverOnyx Air Purifier has one, making it not only a candidate as the best air purifier for mold, but also the best UV air purifier. Best of all: it’s low-cost and low-investment.

Why We Like It – SilverOnyx Air Purifier

Affordable and small, the SilverOnyx Air Purifier is perfect for placing inside a small office or a child’s bedroom. Its 500 square foot coverage makes it so, along with 360 degrees of air intake for efficient spreading.

Pros
  • Its 5-stage filtration includes a UV light
  • Small, compact air cleaner
  • Affordable + low-cost replacement filters
Cons
  • Isn’t large enough to fully benefit from its 360-degree intake

Power & Speed

Despite being smaller, the SilverOnyx Air Purifier has five different speeds to choose from, with the highest achieving around 80 CFM. You can be more energy conscious through the use of Auto Mode and let the unit choose the speed, based on surrounding air quality. With so many speeds, you’d think it would get loud, but its noise levels are hardly above a whisper—especially in Sleep Mode.

Efficiency

What kind of coverage would that give you? Up to 500 square feet, which is unlike the Pure Enrichment air purifier filter. This coverage equals about the size of average bedrooms or living rooms. To further impact air cleaning, it also changes the air every 10 minutes or so, with the help of its 360-degree intake. However, it isn’t big enough to use this design fully. If that isn’t to your liking, or isn’t enough, then you’ll want the Alen BreatheSmart Classic Large Room Air Purifier.

Versatility

Similar to the Partu HEPA air purifier, the SilverOnyx Air Purifier uses 5 stages of air purification: a mesh pre-filter, True HEPA filter, activated carbon filter, air ionizer, and UV C light filter. Any large particles like pet dander, human and pet hair are stopped at the pre-filter; dust and allergens as small as 0.3 microns are stopped by the HEPA air filter; and the activated carbon filter does away with smoke and odors. The ionizer uses negative ions to attract particles to the HEPA air filter. Finally, the UV-C light filter handles mold and germs. Check out the Sharp KC-850U review for an effective air purifier that doesn’t use this kind of filter system.

Durability

Since the SilverOnyx Air Purifier is admittedly cheap, its materials were likely sacrificed first. It isn’t made of particularly high quality plastic, but still good enough to handle being tipped over. You certainly wouldn’t want it falling to the ground, however, or else it might break. Value

Getting your hands on good H13 True HEPA air purifiers is a chore in and of itself—but one this affordable, and has 5 stages of air filtration? That’s a deal all on its own. Toss in its compact design and low-cost replacement filters, and you’ve got yourself a really great deal. Of course, there’s always the Levoit LV-PUR131S to consider, too.

SilverOnyx Air Purifier Wrap Up

If the SilverOnyx Air Purifier were a tad larger, it would make use of its 360-degree intake a lot better, but it nonetheless benefits from it. This is especially true when you pair it with its five-stage filtration system. But, most importantly, it’s affordable and costs very little to invest.
