Not many segways travel in the rain; they’re electrical nature tends to avoid that idea. But with the Segway Ninebot S-Plus, you can enjoy your segway in rain or shine. And with its sturdy design, you can enjoy some choice rugged terrain. It’s one of the best segways for having fun, adult and child alike.

Why We Like It – Segway Ninebot S-Plus Review

With IP54 water-resistant chassis, 22 mile battery life, and a top speed of 12.5mph, you’ll be zipping around on this segway come rain or shine. Don’t forget your helmet!

Pros
  • Great battery life of 22 miles
  • Water-resistant rating of IP54
  • Sturdy design
Cons
  • Can’t adjust knee control bar
  • Expensive

Performance

For such a small device, you wouldn’t expect much—but the Segway Ninebot S-Plus can have you going at a top speed of 12.5 miles per hour. If your child is the rider, you can use the remote control’s Follow Mode or adjust the speed via app. It can handle any incline as sharp as 15 degrees, which is good for some choice terrain.

Battery life is really good, providing a maximum range of 22 miles on a single charge. If you do the math, that’s about 2 hours of riding time. Charge time isn’t the greatest, however. It’ll take 4 hours to charge for 2 hours of fun.

Design

Like any knee-controlled segway, they’re largely operated hands free. Your knees do the steering, with the added benefit of the segway self balancing when necessary. Unfortunately, you cannot adjust the knee control bar, which is a huge learning curve for some and significantly harder for taller people to use. To avoid this, consider a Segway miniLITE with an Aubestker Handlebar Kickstand Kit.

The tires themselves are 11-inch pneumatic tires, good for smooth roads and some choice bumpy terrain. It’s also received an electrical and fire-safety testing and falls under UL 2272 certification, with the addition of IP54 waterproofing. You can take it for a spin in the rain. A sturdy and durable handlebar that can give you control over your Segway is featured in our Tolanbbt Handlebar Extension review.

Value

The Segway Ninebot S-Plus is a solid device, with a great battery life and sturdy design. It can certainly withstand a beating or two, and you would get plenty of use out of it. But does the $779 price tag justify it? That’s highly debatable. It’s brother, the Segway Ninebot S has better all-around value. It’s right behind it in terms of performance, but its saving grace is the ability to turn into a go-kart (with the necessary parts). The Segway Ninebot S-Plus can’t do that.

Segway Ninebot S-Plus Review Wrap Up

We won’t knock the Segway Ninebot S-Plus for its performance because of how well it operates in various terrain and weather. Its asking price doesn’t fit its performance, however. You’ll get used to the knee bar. And when you do, you’ll have a segway that can last for 22 miles and drive at a top speed of 12.5mph.
