Nike FlyKnit Ultra Light Sneaker (video)

You probably thought that those light weight running shoes couldn’t get any lighter? Wrongzo. This past February Nike unveiled their Flyknit sneaks. They use an upper mesh that is specially weaved together that maintains their ultra light weight build without compromising sturdiness or comfort. These are the best running shoes that I have seen in a long time.

Nike is billing their FlyKnit shoes as a second skin to your feet since there is virtually no need to wear socks with these. Taking on a minimalist design, Nike worked with a variety of designers and engineers for 4 years to carefully craft these shoes, which have resulted in a running sneaker that weighs just 5.6oz in a men’s size 9, with the majority of that weight derived from the sole – the upper weighs only 1.2oz.

Aside from supposedly being one of the best fitting running shoes on the market, the Nike FlyKnits will also reduce on waste, labor costs and ultimately should bring more manufacturing jobs back to the US.

You should be able to purchase a consumer level version of the Flyknits (they’ll weigh about 7.7oz) this July. Price has yet to be announced, but if we had to guess we’d say about $100-150.
