Pros
  • High efficiency washing for better cleaning performance
  • Healthy number of washer features
  • Great pricing
Cons
  • So-so warranty
  • Isn’t Energy Star qualified

Performance

How thorough and well the Maytag MVWX655DW washes clothes is all thanks to several technologies working intandem, otherwise known as its PowerWash system. The Power Impeller, along with optimal dispensers that release the right amount of fabric softener and detergent, uses a combination of reverse washing motions and triple action spray to keep your clothes saturated with cleaning solution. It’s a great option to have for extra cleaning—just select the PowerWash cycle option.

Speaking of which, the Maytag MVWX655DW has 11 wash cycles and options such as PowerWash cycle and Deep Water Wash cycle, which raises the water level inside (cold water or hot). That’s 9 more than the Giantex Portable Mini Compact Twin Tub. Normally, it would use less water, but if it needs extra, the option is there.

Design

Maytag’s new washer is pretty generic in design. It has that tall, rectangular shape that’s synonymous with the idea of washing machines. Loading clothes into the washer is down by opening the lid at the top. Hence, the name “top loading”.

Opening the lid will reveal a stainless steel wash basket. The capacity is 4.3 cu ft, but a load size of 15 lbs is ideal for clothes clean as ever. Its dimensions are 28 x 27 x 43 inches, so nowhere near as small as Super Deal Portable Twin Tub, but nearly identical in design as the Panda Compact Washing Machine.

Value

For what you get in return—lots of washer cycles, options, performance—the Maytag MVWX655DW has really good value. This is especially true for someone who needs an efficient washer, but on a budget; the Maytag Bravos top load washers are great for that.

The Maytag MVWX655DW does suffer when it comes to warranty and energy usage, however. It isn’t an energy hog, per say, but it isn’t Energy Star qualified. As for warranty, you’re left with a one year warranty; that’s pretty abysmal considering problems start to occur either early in a device’s life, or after the first year.

Maytag MVWX655DW Review Wrap Up

The Maytag MVWX655DW Top Load may not be Energy Star certified, but it’s still incredibly efficient when washing clothes. And with so many washing cycles to choose from, fabrics get washed the right way. It doesn’t hurt that the pricing is so good, either. As long as you aren’t beating it up, the one year warranty isn’t a big deal. It still gets you out of laundromats.
