As our #8 choice for the best LG air conditioner, the LW2217IVSM is a well-made AC unit capable of cooling areas up to 1,300 sq. ft. It uses a dual inverter with three fan speeds (adjustable in four different directions), LG ThinQ technology for remote control/monitoring, and only costs an estimated $100 per year to run. Read on to learn more about its features and how they compare to some of the top-performing air conditioners we have today.

Why We Like It – LG LW2217IVSM

The LG LW2217IVSM are window air conditioners with a BTU rating of 22,000, three fan speed settings (which are adjustable in 4 different directions), and are smart wifi-enabled devices. Similar to the LG 115V dual inverter smart window A/C, they can be controlled by ThinQ, Google Assistant, or Amazon Alexa. Of course, you can also use the included remote control instead! And if you’re not so tech-savvy and you would rather have a simple air conditioning solution, go for the LG LW1816ER model.

Pros
  • 3 Separate Fan Speeds
  • This LG Air Conditioner Has Enough Cooling Power To Cool Up to 1,300 Sq Ft
  • Auto Restart Feature
Cons
  • Poor Customer Service
  • Expensive

Performance

Unlike the Midea U Inverter window A/C, this is an extremely efficient unit that is capable of cooling areas up to 1,300 square feet in size. The LG LW2217IVSM achieves this using its 22K DUAL inverter design as opposed to an 18K non-inverter design, resulting in up to 40% more energy savings. If you just require a smaller unit that can cool a lesser space, say, 220 square feet, then this LG LW8016 HR model is what you should go for. Going back to our LW2217IVSM review, you will notice that despite the high capabilities of this device, it still manages to stay fairly quiet, operating at noise levels as low as 44dB. The downside of a unit with this much power? The AC weighs 110 lbs!

Energy Efficiency

You don’t have to worry about breaking the bank to cool down large rooms with this device because the dual inverter design makes it extremely efficient. The design makes this window air conditioner up to 40% more energy efficient than the minimum requirements for the ENERGY STAR certification, costing approximately $48 less for a yearly operating cost of around $100. This earns the unit an EER rating of 14.5 (if energy efficiency or large space cooling isn’t important to you, check out our LG LW1017ERSM review instead).

Filtration

Like the LG LW1816ER, this AC has an easy-clean air filter. It will alert you when the filter needs to be cleaned, so you won’t have to constantly check manually (the alert will go off around 500 hours of use). The easy-clean filter is accessible from the front of the device behind the plastic covering. There’s no need to purchase an additional filter for the device; you can reuse the old one! The filter can be cleaned with minimal effort using soap & water.

Durability

The LW2217IVSM is built fairly well, as most LG appliances are. The sides and back of this device appear to be made of a sturdy white-ish metal, which is important for the structural integrity of the device. Obviously, we would not drop the unit on purpose, but at least the metal casing provides some protection should you drop this 110 lbs. air conditioner. There are only pad-style buttons on the front, so you don’t have to worry about anything falling or breaking off.

Value

For the privilege of efficiently cooling up to 1,300 square feet, you will have to spend $915 (if you prefer portability overpower, you can pick up the LG LP1419IVSM for around the same price). If this is more than you feel inclined to spend, you’ll be happy to know there are renewed versions of this AC available for about half the price. Depending on which seller you purchase this unit from, you may also get free shipping. LG offers a one-year warranty on the LP1419IVSM.

LG LW2217IVSM Wrap Up

We definitely recommend the LG LW2217IVSM. The price of a new unit is quite high, but it’s nice that there are renewed units available for much less. That said, this unit is extremely powerful and efficient, so no matter which condition you choose, there’s no need to worry about sky-high electric bills from this unit.
