The Koldfront Window Air Conditioner not only cools a medium-sized room but can also dehumidify it up to 2.3 pints per hour. Perfect for those humid summer months, it’s one of the reasons we’ve chosen it as a great through-the-wall air conditioner. It also includes a remote control so the lack of smart features shouldn’t be too much of a bother. Read on to learn more about the features it has, and how it compares to other best-selling air conditioners.

Why We Like It – Koldfront Air Conditioner

The Koldfront Air Conditioner is a mid-sized in-wall air conditioner that can cool a medium-sized room with relative ease and efficiency. The 9.6 CEER rating is great to see, and its lightweight design allows you to transport it easily should you feel the need to.

Pros
  • Removes 2.3 Pints Per Hour of Moisture
  • UL Listed
  • Includes a Remote Control
Cons
  • Not Energy Star Certified
  • No Stated Noise Level

Performance

The Koldfront Air Conditioner boasts an impressive cooling capacity of 10,000 BTU. Translated, it can blow cool air throughout a room size of about 400-450 square feet. If you’d like more variance in your unit, consider the Keystone Air Conditioner. As a bonus, the unit can also remove 2.3 pints of moisture per hour, or 55.8 per day, from the air which is great for humid summer days. Some portable units can remove more moisture, like the Serene Life portable air conditioner.

Energy Efficiency

The Koldfront Air Conditioner has a CEER rating of 9.6 which is even lower than some other competing brands and models, such as the Friedrich Wall Air Conditioner. Unfortunately, considering this is a combined score, it doesn’t qualify the unit for an Energy Star certification. It is, at least, UL Listed. So you’ll be happy to know the unit will be cooling your room with the freshest air possible. And while we’re talking about energy efficiency, we’d also like to recommend the Koldfront CAC8000W which has both a sleep mode, and an energy saver mode.

Filtration

It’s cumbersome to clean the filter on almost all in-wall air conditioners, but at least this Koldfront Air Conditioner makes the process a little less inconvenient. Simply pull it out and clean it, and slide it back into place. Make sure you do this once a month and make sure you’re giving it a light wash instead of just vacuuming it to clear it of all the larger particles. Another unit that might interest you is the Klimaire Mini Split AC because of its auto-clean function which means it self-cleans its filters.

Durability

At roughly 70 pounds, the unit is on the precipice of being heavy but still qualifies as being on the lighter, more portable side. Check out the KSTAT10-2C Keystone Air Conditioner if you’re looking for more portable air conditioners too. Unfortunately, there’s no word on the noise level, either via customer reviews or product specifications, so we’re going to have to deduct a few points for this.

Value

Some convenience the Koldfront Air Conditioner offers is a remote control so you can control the unit from a distance which will be great in the summer months. The unit offers three fan speeds and a 24-hour programmable timer which works on your schedule so you’re not blowing air throughout the house and wasting money while you’re away at work.

Koldfront Air Conditioner Wrap Up

The story of the Koldfront Air Conditioner’s energy efficiency is one step forward, one step back. It’s UL Listed, which is fantastic as you know it’ll only blow clean air, but it’s also not Energy Star certified, which is something 90% of its competitors are. We’re not saying it’s a bad unit. Far from it. But with their next model, they should probably try and rectify this situation.
